It was difficult to nail down our third Volunteer of the Year for his award photo yesterday as he was off to rescue a javelina! In addition to being the museum’s blacksmith, Paul “Dief” Diefenderfer also volunteers for Southwest Wildlife. This past year he participated in our Arizona Gold Mine Experience programs, did additional blacksmith presentations for school groups and special tours and volunteered to set up his mobile blacksmith station at our Miners Dinner. In addition to entertaining 2 legged museum guests and rescuing furry and feathered local critters he also forged items for our gift shop and made props for children’s programs. Thank you Dief for your dedication to the museum and our community!

🌟 We’re thrilled to share that Cave Creek has been named one of the United States’ best-kept secrets by Worldatlas.com! Here's what they had to say about our unique town:

"Cave Creek, another hidden gem in The Copper State, is a charming old west frontier town that warmly welcomes every kind of traveler. You can explore fascinating Sonoran exhibits at the Cave Creek Museum, where well-preserved artifacts from the Cave Creek/Carefree foothills area and Cave Creek Mining District tell captivating stories. Don’t miss the impressive collection of minerals, crystals, and gemstones at Rare Earth Gallery. For outdoor enthusiasts, the scenic trails of Cave Creek Regional Park are perfect for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, offering breathtaking views and a rich variety of plant and animal life that will truly leave you in awe."

Our second of three Volunteers of the Year is Jay Duimstra. This was his first year with the museum and he has been a docent for special tours, represented CCM at Local Landmark events, assisted in Family Fun Day events, and helped set up for Miners Dinner. He also became part of the Dream Team and completed training to become one of several certified operators of our unique ten stamp mill. Jay has been very active in his first year and we are so thankful for all his time and work!

🌟As one of our three Volunteer of the Year recipients for the 25/26 season we want to first spotlight Shelly Randall. This was her first year with the museum and she quickly stepped up often as a docent, including subbing last minute. Shelly also helped many times setting up for events and checking in guests for our adult education presentations and assisted on special projects. We are grateful to have you as part of our CCM family, Shelly!
