🌾 What do YOU love about Murray’s Mill? ❤️

There’s something special about stepping onto the grounds of Murray’s Mill Historic District—where more than a century of Catawba County history is still standing!

The historic district preserves the 1913 Murray’s Mill, the 1890s Murray & Minges General Store, the 1880s Wheathouse, the 1913 John Murray House, and several historic outbuildings.

Operated by three generations of the Murray family until milling operations ended in 1967, Murray’s Mill remains the last milling complex in Catawba County. The Catawba County Historical Association began restoration efforts in 1980, helping preserve this special piece of our community’s story for generations to come. The restored site officially opened in 1988, with Governor James G. Martin attending the opening ceremony.

Whether it’s the history, the beautiful scenery, the mill, the General Store, or simply making memories here—we want to hear from you! 🌿

✨Archives Tuesday!✨

This well-loved and beautiful quilt was made by Ola Murray and given to us by her great-granddaughter! Look at all those tiny stitches! In the close-up you can see a piece of missing fabric. It's possible this piece (and others) had an accident over the years, but it's also possible that they ate themselves. Certain dyes were toxic and would eat the fabric.

Do you have family quilts in your personal collection? Remember, your great-grandma made them to be used, not to sit in a closet. Please take them out and share them so that the rest of the family can enjoy her labor of love.
