New Exhibit!

The Highline Heritage Museum has a new exhibit in our conference room, presented by the Burien Arts, Judith Rayl "On Release of Loss". Our conference room is open to all visitors; come in and enjoy the beautiful art!

Judith Rayl is an artist, poet, curator, and physician. Her award-winning images explore visible manifestations of our innermost states of being, while querying our relationship with Nature.

The famous Megalonyx fossil, a giant ground sloth from the Ice Age, was found at SeaTac Airport in 1961! You can see a replica of the fossil at the museum!

On October 14, the Highline Heritage Museum had the immense pleasure of hosting John Halliday (Coyote), a Muckleshoot artist, speaker, and former tribal leader, for a beautiful presentation about Native resilience.

This free program presents an evening of true stories told by members of our community on a given theme. There are 7 storytellers and 7 real stories, @ 7 minutes each.

7 Stories is planned for the fourth Friday of each month at 7:00 PM as a public event at the Highline Heritage Museum, 819 SW 152nd Street, Burien.

Explore the history of calaveras literarias—Día de Mu***os poems that tease the living through the voice of Death.

Highline and Muckleshoot leaders convene at Highline Heritage Museum on October 13, 2026, to meet about the deepening of the partnership between Highline Heritage Museum, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and Highline Public Schools Native Education Program.

The leaders toured the museum’s collections, made key recommendations, identified opportunities for future collaboration, and spotlighted the importance and meaning of culture, history, community co-design, and key partnerships between education agencies, historical and cultural stakeholders, and – in particular – intentionally centering the voices of Tribal Nations and their citizens and descendants wherever they may live.

It’s noteworthy that this historic meeting coincided with the politically important Washington State Centennial Accord convening, bringing together Tribal Officials, the Governor of Washington State, and numerous state leaders from across the State of Washington, happening October 12th-14th in Snoqualmie Tribal Territory.

Details:

Explore Native resilience through the personal journey of John Halliday (Coyote), a Muckleshoot artist, speaker, and former tribal leader. After surviving a near-death experience and losing much of his sight, Halliday turned to traditional Native values of endurance and adaptation to remake his life through art, music, and storytelling.
Blending drumming, flute music, painting, and lived history, he shares how Native communities have survived beyond the signing of treaties. Audiences will gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous history, strength, and creativity today.
