The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod, was founded in 1954. Our mission is to encourage and advance understanding of our natural environment through discovery and learning. The museum is housed in a 17,000 square foot building on its own 80-acre site and abutted by 320 acres of town- and Conservation-owned land. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is won

derful Cape Cod family activity destination. There are countless fun kids activities at the museum including bird watching, exploring the aquarium and learning more about marine science, and several interactive STEM education opportunities in the John Hay room. Exploring the 400-plus acres of museum-owned land and museum trails surrounding the museum makes for a great family activity, and offers more bird watching and hands on learning about marine science and the fascinating Cape Cod ecosystem. KidSummer is a popular summer camp day program offered at the Museum for children aged 3-15, instilling a sense of wonder and discovery to last a lifetime. The KidSummer Cape Cod summer camp program exposes children to marine science, ecotourism, bird watching, and STEM curriculum. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History offers STEM and STEAM education opportunities, experiences, and STEM curriculum. In collaboration with organizations like International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the Museum offers STEM teacher training programming and workshops for PDP (Professional Development Points) to Massachusetts teachers.

It’s one of our biggest events of the year, and this time International Horseshoe Crab Day will be even more special on Friday, June 19 between 10am and 2pm.

2026 marks the tenth year of our Horseshoe Crab Aquaculture Program, which has been educating people about these incredible ‘living fossils’. It’s also our fifth year celebrating International Horseshoe Crab Day itself.

We will also have special guest speaker Liana DiNunzio, shorebird biologist from Manomet Conservation Sciences, who will be talking about her work monitoring horseshoe crabs at the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge Center.

Come to the Museum and join the party, including:

• See live horseshoe crabs at every life stage with opportunities to watch feedings
• Take part in interactive exhibits
• Learn about their fascinating life histories and their human impact
• Enjoy Arts & crafts and a Museum scavenger hunt

All Horseshoe Crab Day events are included with Museum admission.

Guest Speaker Liana DiNunzio will appear at 2:30pm. Tickets also included with admission or separately for $8.

🎂Happy birthday to the Grand Dame of the Aquarium, Myrtle! She’s 35 years old today.

Myrtle came to us just after hatching (she still had her yolk sack), and is now one of the stars of our Aquarium. She had her favorite food, shrimp, for breakfast this morning.

She is a diamondback terrapin, which at the time of her arrival here in 1991 was a species close to extinction. It’s now making a slow recovery.

Swipe through to see Myrtle’s “birth certificate” and come on in to wish her a big Happy Birthday at !
