Open Tuesday - Saturday from 10 am - 4 pm The Brenham Heritage Museum acts as an agent for the conservation and preservation of the heritage of Brenham and Washington County. Our duty to the tangible and intangible heritage of our region is our highest ideal. The BHM is housed inside a restored early 20th century Post Office. Our collections include historic regional photographs, a collection of 19th and early twentieth century lamps, and artifacts and images relating to business and commerce in old Brenham. We have an archaeology collection, an antique dentist's chair, and exhibits honoring and recognizing some of our local veterans. Join us in beautiful and historic Downtown Brenham. This past weekend, the Brenham Heritage Museum welcomed a full-capacity audience for An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe, featuring acclaimed Poe interpreter Campbell Harmon, M.A. (Rottenartist The Poe Actor)

All 100 tickets were claimed in advance, as guests from Brenham, Chappell Hill, and across Texas gathered for an evening of literature, history, and live performance. The program began with a reception and light dinner before Mr. Harmon brought Edgar Allan Poe’s life and work to the stage, featuring well-known stories like "The Raven" and "The Telltale Heart."

The Museum is grateful to Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, for supporting this program. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations that were expressed during this program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or Humanities Texas.

Special thanks also go to the Chappell Hill Historical Society Museum for hosting the evening in its historic schoolhouse and to one of our community partners, and the Main Street House, for supporting the guest artist’s lodging.

🎨 The Texas Arts & Music Festival Juried Art Show is now on view at the Brenham Heritage Museum through Saturday, October 31!

Explore more than 50 works by talented artists from across Texas and our local community, displayed throughout both the upstairs and downstairs galleries. From paintings and photography to sculpture and more, there is something new to discover around every corner.

Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Regular Museum admission applies, and museum members always receive free admission. Admission rates and the museum's location can be found at: www.bhmtexas.org

The Brenham Heritage Museum recently received a Humanities Texas rural grant to host "An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe" on October 3, 2026. The event will feature dramatic performances of Poe's works—including "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Raven"—alongside stories from the writer's life and career, offering audiences an introduction to one of American literature's most distinctive voices.
