Meet Ekaterina Popova () - another of our featured artists for "Through the Dreamhouse!" 😍

πŸ‘‰ "Ekaterina Popova is an acclaimed artist born in Russia, globally recognized for her contemporary oil paintings of interiors and landscapes. With a Bachelor's in Fine Art from Kutztown University earned in 2011, Ekaterina has since been showcasing her work on an international scale, solidifying her place in the global art community.

Her explorations of mood, emotion, and themes of home and belonging are influenced by post-impressionism, fauvism, and magical realism. These influences have guided her decade-long examination of home, place, and identity."

We're so happy to have Ekaterina joining us, and we can't wait to see her work up on our walls! Reminder - "Through the Dreamhouse" will be opening at the end of this month, Saturday January 27! Don't miss it!

Check out our Solo Show winner from 2016: "Play Hard or Go Home," 2015 installation by Chrystal McConnell () πŸ“š

πŸ‘‰"I started this project in September 2014 as a way to talk about my family secrets through an interactive installation... By creating this installation, it allowed me to use discarded and abandoned materials as the foundation of my work... [T]he very nature of each object alludes to my own historical foundation. Once this was established, it became clear that my family history should be revealed through a means of decoding, since many of the things I reveal are family secrets... This allowed me to reveal my true feelings through text and image, instead of through the spoken word.

The installation itself is very seductive. You are first lured into the room by the sheer volume and chromatic schema of the books. Each book is curated and handpicked for its title. But I have also arranged them into the colors of the rainbow. I like the false sense of beauty they portray, while masking the darker meanings of the titles. So there is tension between what is seen on the outside and what is fabricated on the inside. That which is hidden and then revealed; which is public and which is private; which is constructed and which is not..."

A week before πŸͺ‘ closed, we had a very fun tour come through! πŸ₯°

Our small friends from Laurel elementary school came on a field trip! They were all eager to learn about the fundamentals behind sewing and weaving πŸ€“

After doing a walkthrough of the exhibit and answering some questions about the art on view, we led a lesson plan on weaving with a handmade loom. 🧡πŸͺ‘ As slow as the process is, they all really enjoyed it!!

Stay tuned for more updates from us! 🫢 And stay warm on these chilly nights πŸ₯Ά

"Stitched Shadows," 2015-2021 by Anna Luisa Delgado πŸ‘₯

πŸ‘‰ For many, tulle fabric is infamously known for its delicate nature and its transparency. Delgado intentionally uses this material to embody the fatal journey of Mexican immigrants. This x-ray-like material further alludes to the post-mortem process of identifying those who perished in their attempts for a better life. The artist draws inspiration from the historical past and from own life growing up in a multicultural-environment in Southern California’s Inland Empire. The multi-disciplinary artist has had her work exhibited nationally, the recipient of numerous awards, and currently teaches ceramics a the collegiate level.

"Water Weavings," by Annette Heully () πŸ’§

πŸ‘‰ "The entire cloth is interconnected and every thread interacts and influences the rest. Just like water, a subtle variation can affect the entire plane and ripple with everything it’s connected with. Just like our actions, what we do ripples out to the rest of the world."

πŸ‘‰ "My work consists primarily of large-scale narrative figure paintings which feature still life elements that amplify the themes of each image. The content in my work is personal, and the paintings are allegories of subject matter that relate to my life experience. They tend to be either multiple figure compositions, which explore the dynamics between individuals, or single figure pieces that are more introspective and iconic."
