We are honored to host the Montana Watercolor Society for our October exhibition.
“The Montana Watercolor Society is pleased to be returning to Bozeman after a 37 year hiatus and we are delighted with our host, Old Main Gallery.
The Society’s mission has always been to encourage the advancement, study, appreciation, and creation of water media painting in Montana and elsewhere.
Our signature event, Watermedia 2025, certainly highlights the exquisite versatility and expression created with water-based paints by artists feature in this exhibit.

What you see in these photographs are the physical remains of those early settlers as well as their descendants who came in the decades that followed. When and why were they abandoned and how is it that they, in all their fading beauty, have survived? My aspiration to capture the “souls” of these buildings, is in some ways like chasing their ghosts; unearthing impressions of long-ago toils, people and experiences. I remind myself that all of these structures were once part of someone’s “American Dream” and in that, I strive to honor these pioneers through my imagery. - Jim Westphalen
