A wonderful workshop with Tony Tony Clennell over the weekend at Tatem Arts Center, Hood College. A talented group of makers created large sectional pots and learned how Tony makes and applies his signature handles and decorates his extraordinary works. Only a few seats left in Tony Clennell’s workshop Tony Clennell We’ll be making very large pots and creating his signature thrown and pulled handles. We will also learn to use the brush to make marks, for which Tony is so well known, and we will apply slip decoration using Tony’s slip recipe. Join us for an exciting weekend learning to create pots larger than usual functional ware. The workshop will be held on the campus of Hood College at the Tatem Arts Center ceramics department. I had the privilege of a private tour yesterday exploring the local caverns near my studio, researching clay deposits and rock formations over 100ft underground to inform my current body of work. Great stalactites formed by rainwater and carbon dioxide in the soil mix to form carbonic acid which seeps through limestone to create tiny rings of calcite. Over thousands of years, growing roughly 1cm per century, these gorgeous formations are evidence of natural organic beauty. Cave blisters, silver calcite formations and slab bacon stalactites were some of the fascinating sights throughout the caverns.

Lovely reception last night at Demuth Museum of Art in Lancaster, PA. I am honored for my piece “Elegancia” to be included. This group of students was so talented and lovely to work with. I enjoyed talking to everyone and seeing the wonderful art they created with Akira Satake Akira’s instruction. Thanks to Hood College and to Artspiration Frederick for their partnership in providing space for this event in Frederick.
