The Depot is on a roll! We are pleased to announced that we’ve received a $15,000 grant from the Efroymson Family Fund—one of the first donor-advised funds accepted by the Central Indiana Community Foundation.

The grant will go toward the expensive and painstaking work of restoring the terra cotta tile roof of our near-century-old Spanish Colonial Revival-style building, which serves as both a museum and gallery as well as a functioning South Shore train station.

Big thanks goes to Indiana Landmarks, which submitted the grant application on our behalf.

Two of our board members, Nina Diamond (that’s Nina on the left) and Monique Rub, recently attended a reception recognizing the latest recipients of the Indiana Historical Society’s Heritage Support Grants.

The Depot received a $50,000 Heritage Support Grant to help preserve our home, the historic Depot. The successful grant application came about through a partnership between the ABSR Community Foundation—under the leadership of grant writer extraordinaire Mary Marvel—and the Museum, with funding provided by the Indiana Historical Society, made possible by the Lilly Endowment Inc.

The event was held at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center in Indianapolis on September 10.

We appreciate Nina and Monique making the trek to Indianapolis to represent the Depot.

The experience begins at Helmut Jahn’s Michigan City Public Library, where participants will gather for a special keynote presentation by Anthony Denzer, Ph.D., Professor of Architecture at the University of Wyoming and author of The Solar House: Pioneering Sustainable Design (Rizzoli, 2013). In The Solar House, Denzer highlights the pioneering work of George Fred Keck and William Keck, illustrating their profound influence on the development of environmentally responsive architecture and sustainable residential design.
