In advance of our much anticipated Bungalows and More housewalk on September 27th , we thought we would take another look at one of the houses we featured in the past. Check in over the next few days, as we explore this house inside and out on our page.

The Dvorak Bungalow is one of the most recognized houses in Berwyn, not only because of its extra large size and lavish use of ornamentation, but because it is one of a pair of identical twin houses that stand mirroring each other on Riverside Drive.

The exceptional woodwork in our vintage homes used to be common, but now it's rare to find a house like this. This home was sold to a developer a couple of years ago, and we have to wonder how much of the Interior he preserved.

Original vintage interior doors are usually of a quality that is almost impossible to buy today. It's worth the effort involved in preserving them. Many of the doors in Berwyn remain in their original state, others have been painted over, and sadly, many have been taken out.

This is an interesting example of both original and refinished wood. This oak door, in a Berwyn bungalow, was painted and the new owner refinished it. The frame has the original 1920s finish.

Our front doors are not the only parts of our vintage homes that have spectacular woodwork.

The owner of this Berwyn bungalow told us that 30 years ago she wanted to paint all of the woodwork white, but her husband dissuaded her from doing it. Now she was so happy that she hadn't done it. We're so happy that she hadn't done it too.

Not every vintage door is a good candidate for wood tone refinishing. Stunning results can be gotten with the right preparation and an excellent paint job.
