The Temple Community Treasures Visual Arts Exhibit is now open at the Bell County Museum! The exhibit features images of Temple’s historic buildings, places, and spaces. The exhibit is sponsored by the Temple Historic Preservation Board.

All photos and paintings in this exhibit were entries in the Temple Community Treasures Photography and Painting Contest. The purpose of both the contest and this exhibit is to draw public attention to the importance of preserving historic places and spaces.

The exhibit will be on display through Saturday, November 14.

ATTENTION EDUCATORS!!

The museum is now accepting reservations for the new Civil War education traveling trunk! Students will learn more about the sectionalism and tensions between the Northern and Southern states while exploring political, economic, and social events and issues leading to the Civil War. The trunk features background information on westward expansion, the Civil War, and Reconstruction along with TEKS based lesson plans, games, and activities and relevant artifacts to engage students. The trunk is best suited for students in 4th-8th grade. Travel trunk rental is completely FREE. What’s the gem of Bell County?

We found it at the Bell County Museum in Belton—where local history comes alive through stories that are fascinating, unexpected, and sometimes downright surprising.

One of the stories that caught our attention? The Sanctified Sisters, a colony of women who lived and worked together right here in Bell County. Talk about a Texas story you probably didn’t learn in school!

From the people who shaped Bell County to the stories hiding in its past, this museum is a reminder that some of the best Texas history is right in our own backyard.
