Today is the final day of May! Before turning the 2026 Seeing Belleville Through Stained Glass Calendar to June, we wanted to share a little about the home featured in May.
For nearly 150 years, the Rogers family operated foundries in Belleville. George B. McC. Rogers was a second-generation foundryman. He came with his parents to Belleville in 1876 from Ohio and went to work in his father’s foundry.
After that foundry closed, he and partners incorporated Excelsior Foundry on East B Street in 1892. George was an executive in this foundry for nearly 50 years. He was concurrently president of First National Bank for 21 years and an elder at First Presbyterian Church.
Although he had a frame house built on Pennsylvania Avenue for his new bride Anna in 1885, his resources permitted him soon after 1900 to replace the old home with an elegant brick residence in the Queen-Anne style.
The home features two stained glass windows, a smaller rectangle and a larger arched window, in its stairwell. There is also stained glass around the window in the living room.
