OPENING SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18!

Join the Maltz Museum for a rare look at Holocaust survivor and artist Boris Lurie’s early “War Series” and previously unseen personal artifacts that highlight his powerful exploration of trauma, memory, and freedom. Discover Lurie’s lifelong journey to transform personal experience into provocative artwork that questions oppression, remembrance, and what it means to be free.

Docent-led tours will be available on Sundays at 2:00 PM, Fridays at 2:00 PM, and the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM — Starting October 18, 2026!

Through powerful artwork and personal artifacts, this moving exhibition shares the extraordinary story of Holocaust survivor and artist Boris Lurie, exploring how his experiences shaped his art and his lifelong search for freedom.

A special thank you to Stephanie Stebich, Executive Director of the Boris Lurie Art Foundation, and Sara Softness, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, for sharing their insights and helping bring Lurie’s remarkable story to life.

We are grateful to our community partners at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland (Jewish Cleveland) and Kol Israel Foundation for continuing this important tradition of honoring the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust and the Survivors who made Northeast Ohio their home.

Now a federally designated National Memorial, the Kol Israel Foundation Holocaust National Memorial stands as a lasting place of remembrance, ensuring these stories are never forgotten.

On Sunday, the foundation hosted the 65th annual fall memorial, it honors and remembers the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust.

🎉 Celebrating 50 years of preserving Cleveland’s Jewish story!

Congratulations to the Cleveland Jewish Archives at the Cleveland History Center as it marks its 50th anniversary!

The Archives play an important role in preserving the people, places and stories that have shaped Jewish life in Northeast Ohio—including many of the stories and artifacts visitors encounter here at the Maltz Museum.

Join our friends at the Western Reserve Historical Society and the Jewish Federation of Cleveland (Jewish Cleveland) for this special anniversary celebration and help honor 50 years of preserving our community’s history for generations to come.
