The Old Governor's Mansion is is a historic house museum listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When the New Governor's Mansion was built, the LASM (formerly LASC) took over the Mansion and house art and science exhibits. The Secretary of State assumed responsibilities of the mansion and continues to run as a museum and an elegant venue for special events. Congratulations to Chris Jordan, our Curatorial Assistant intern who just started his pursuit of a Doctorate of History degree at the University of Mississippi. Chris was a valuable part of our team who supported the reorganization of our collection storage, assisted with installations of our exhibits, and provided tours to our visitors of all ages. The Mansion is known for it's Zuber wallpaper in the Formal Dining Room. Depicting scenery from across the country, it's a beautiful layout that started with a stamp. Make your stamp and learn about the history of Huey's House during Fall Into History! Sunday, September 6 from 11am-4pm!

Celebrate the start of the season with a day of music, history, and family fun this September at the Old Governor’s Mansion! Join us for Fall into History, a free event on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., celebrating the arrival of autumn with great exhibits, live music, local cuisine, and activities for all ages. Guests are invited to tour the mansion with the museum’s docents and view rare artifacts showcased by the curator as part of the Free First Sunday initiative. This year’s event will also feature a special partnership with the West Baton Rouge Museum, LSU Special Collections, and the African American Museum, which will be displaying items from their exhibit, making Fall into History a unique opportunity to experience the rich culture and shared history of our region.
