Breathing Through It
A true fighter is someone who quietly defies the person their pain tried to turn them into.
The greatest battles are not always fought against what stands before us. Sometimes they are fought deep within us—against the bitterness, fear, and brokenness that attempt to make a home inside our wounds.
True strength is rarely loud.
It is found in choosing tenderness without surrendering discernment, forgiveness without denying the wound, and grace without abandoning yourself. It is the quiet rebellion of refusing to let another person’s darkness rewrite the light within you.
What happened to me may have wounded me, but it will not be permitted to become me.
I am a true fighter—not because I was never broken, but because I refused to let brokenness become my identity. I kept my tenderness without surrendering my strength. I kept loving without allowing bitterness to claim my heart. I continued to rise, even when remaining on the ground would have been understandable.
I am a pick-back-up girl, with grace in my heart and holy defiance in my bones.
And I will make this truth the very breath filling my lungs:
I inhale grace.
I exhale what tried to define me.
I breathe in who I am becoming.
I release who pain demanded I become.
With every breath, I am no longer merely proving that I survived. I am giving life to the woman I fought so courageously to become.
The wound may remain part of my story, but it no longer holds the pen—or steals the breath from my lungs.
I am not merely surviving the battle.
I am breathing through it.
