Showcasing the work of illustrator Anderson Carman and botanical sculptor Kathy Stair, this exhibition explores the wonders of the woodland environment.

Carman’s illustrations juxtapose organic natural forms with Euclidean geometry, while Stair’s sculptures incorporate found materials from the forest to create pieces that evoke both meditation and whimsy. Though working in different mediums, both artists bring distinct perspectives to the same subject, revealing the richness and diversity of natural forms.

Together their works, both framed and formed, highlight the beauty, complexity, and quiet intrigue of the woodland world.

It’s a beautiful day at Gallery 1740! Schedule your next visit during our gallery hours of Tuesday-Friday, 9-4.

Mark your calendars for the opening of our next exhibition, “Places the Light Remembers.”

“Places the Light Remembers” presents a curated selection of works by Kerream Jones that meditate on memory as both presence and residue — what remains after a moment has passed, and how light continues to inhabit those spaces. Jones’ paintings operate within a quiet emotional register, where personal history, faith, and reflection converge through subtle gestures and symbolic forms.

Rather than documenting specific events, the works in this exhibition evoke the sensation of remembering — moments shaped by absence, tenderness, and resilience. Figures emerge and recede, objects carry emotional weight, and light functions as both witness and guide. Together, the paintings form a visual archive of lived experience, inviting viewers to consider how memory settles into places, how it softens over time, and how belief sustains meaning beyond the visible.

Join us for the opening reception on February 27th from 7-9 pm. Enjoy an artist talk, live music and wine & hors d’oeuvres.
