✨ ARTIST TALK RECAP ✨
Last week, Hammonds House Museum welcomed artist Steve R. Allen and co-curator Tisha Smith for a fascinating conversation celebrating Allen’s dual exhibitions, Infinite Inheritance and O Jogo Bonito (The Beautiful Game).
Moderated by Tisha Smith—owner of Art You Better, LLC, Public Art Manager/Curator for Fulton County, and co-curator of the exhibitions—the conversation explored Allen’s artistic journey and the evolution of his distinctive “Fractal Afro Futuristic” visual language.
Guests gained insight into how sacred geometry, ancestral knowledge, mathematics, music, athletics, and history converge throughout Allen’s work. Allen also shared stories from his decades-long career, including his selection by the City of Atlanta as its official artist during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, a milestone that continues to inspire O Jogo Bonito (The Beautiful Game).
The afternoon was filled with meaningful conversation, personal storytelling, and thoughtful dialogue about Black identity, spirituality, cultural continuity, and the limitless possibilities of Black futures.

As Atlanta prepares to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup 2026, experience an exhibition that celebrates the global spirit of sport through the lens of art.
O Jogo Bonito (The Beautiful Game) by Steve R. Allen explores Black excellence, visibility, and cultural continuity through dynamic imagery inspired by athletics, movement, and collective achievement. Drawing on the legacy of the Olympics and the World Cup, Allen transforms sport into a powerful metaphor for resilience, creativity, discipline, and limitless possibility.
Having begun painting only a few years before the Games in Atlanta, Steve R. Allen was selected by the City of Atlanta as its official artist for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. This extraordinary milestone informs the exhibition, inviting visitors to reflect on achievement, legacy, and the continued reimagining of Black futures across generations.
