TRANSPORTATION NEEDED — EVERETT, WASHINGTON TO ATLANTA, ILLINOIS

I’m looking for someone who can haul an 18-foot-tall fiberglass Giant from Everett, Washington to Atlanta, Illinois.

If you’re a trucker, hotshot hauler, heavy-haul company, or know someone who regularly runs from the Pacific Northwest toward Illinois and might be interested in the job, please contact me.

The Giant is going to Atlanta, Illinois on Historic Route 66.

Ever wonder where our Viking came from?

Long before arriving at the American Giants Museum, this giant had already lived quite a life! He originally stood at the Continental Carpet Store in Dagsboro, Delaware, promoting Viking Carpet in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He later moved to Salisbury, Maryland, before eventually ending up in storage at a local auction house.

In May 1972, Addison Nelson purchased the Viking and eventually moved him to the Apes Hole area near Crisfield, Maryland. By late 1973, the giant Viking was standing beside Nelson's store and quickly became a local landmark. After the store closed in 1976, he remained there for years, surviving everything from curious visitors to teenagers throwing rocks and even shooting at him!

The Viking was eventually sold and moved to Marion, Maryland, and a few years later moved again to Chincoteague, Virginia. There he became a well-known local landmark associated with Capt. Bob Payne's Sea Treasures. After Captain Bob passed away in 2006, Star Mondragon became the Viking's caretaker and looked after him for many years. Hurricane Sandy even knocked the giant down in 2012, but the Viking survived!

In August 2023, the Viking's current owners purchased him and began a complete restoration, bringing this incredible piece of roadside history back to life. Today, they have generously loaned him to the American Giants Museum, where he is once again standing tall for visitors to enjoy.

From Delaware to Maryland, Virginia and now Route 66 in Illinois, our Viking has been turning heads for more than 60 years—and we're thrilled to be part of the next chapter in his story! The American Giants Museum is open 7 days a week 10-4 each day, come visit the viking!

John Paget and his film crew just stopped in at the Giants Route 66 Stop in Atlanta, IL to say hi and check out our Pep Boys! Big thanks to them for inviting us at the Normal Theatre for the screening. Be sure and check out the schedule for future screenings as they travel down Route 66. Also be sure to stop by the shop to get your own picture with the pep boys, this particular statue came out of Texas.

The American Giants Museum team had a great time last night at the Main Street of American film premier at the Normal Theatre! Great turn out, packed house and got to meet John Paget and enjoy the film which featured the American Giants Museum! We highly recommend watching the film as it travels down Route 66.
