This is a site with some of my recent paintings and information about exhibitions. I've been painting in water media for more than 40 years.

I create mostly representational landscapes, forms, and figures, rendered in bright hues of gouache, and tied together by a background of black ink. I enjoy exploring new subject matter and techniques of application, but the choice and use of color are what make painting an expressive, energizing pastime for me. I'm mostly self-taught, but I owe much to the Ann Arbor Art Center where I first learn

ed drawing and painting. Most weeks from April through mid-December you can find me as a vendor with original paintings to sell at The Sunday Artisan Market next to Kerrytown in downtown Ann Arbor. I'm a signature artist of the Virginia Watercolor Society, a juried member of Potomac Valley Watercolorists, and a board member of the Michigan Watercolor Society. Through the years I've had featured artist exhibitions at the Arts Depot Spotlight Gallery (Abington, VA), Falls Church (VA) ArtSpace, Falls Church City Hall, Western Michigan University and Pfizer Corporation Headquarters (Kalamazoo), Concordia University and Catherine McCauley Health Center (Ann Arbor), as well as many smaller venues. My paintings have appeared in over 25 state and regional juried shows and in the 2009 National Watercolor Society All Member Show at San Pedro, CA. Corporate art collections have acquired my paintings as have numerous private collectors.

On Friday and Saturday, June 5 & 6, I'll be selling my art for the first time in Kalamazoo's historic Bronson Park at the 75th Annual KIA Arts Fair. My booth is -11, just south of Academy Street, and very near the center of the fair. FRI hours are 3-8 pm and SAT from 9 am - 5 pm.

If you caught me at the Kalamazoo Garage Sale in February, you'll discover that I've been busy and will bring many new and original paintings. Come visit this wonderful art fair that features 145 juried artists across a dozen mediums, along with live music, food trucks and companion events throughout the downtown!

"Trees," a painting in gouache and ink on watercolor paper.

This is a fresh take on a composition I find myself returning to now and then. Earlier versions have appeared in the Michigan (2002) and Virginia (2005) Watercolor Societies' annual exhibitions as well as the National Watercolor Society's 92nd Annual All-Member Show (2009).

This piece will be available at Ann Arbor's Sunday Artisan Market and Westside Art Hop (June 13 & 14), and at the KIA Art Fair in Kalamazoo (June 5 & 6).

My painting, "Parakeets," is a personal favorite for a few reasons. It was featured in 2009 in the 30th Annual Virginia Watercolor Society Exhibition at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. It now hangs in a prominent place in our home above the fireplace. And sentimentally, its form originated in a book my father used for his own projects as an avid and talented wood carver. The piece is done in gouache and ink on watercolor paper.

My paintings, "Desert Flowers" and "Still Life: Vase and Flowers," are on display until May 26 at the Ann Arbor Art Center in the Michigan Watercolor Society's 4th Annual Signature Member Exhibition. An opening reception for the show is Friday, April 17 from 6-8 pm.

Thirty-three Signature Artists are represented, having earned their status by being juried into at least four MWCS annual exhibitions over the previous 10-12 years. Eight of the Signature Artists in the show are also Great Lakes Fellows, which indicates they've served at least three years on the MWCS board. I'm proud to be among those honorees, as well.

Come see and support Michigan watercolorists at this outstanding exhibition and venue!!
