K. T. Kobel

These paintings continue an ongoing investigation into the ways images shape memory and perception. They present moments that feel simultaneously familiar and unknowable. Conceived as sequences rather than isolated images, the works unfold through repetition, variation and subtle shifts in perspective.

Built through multiple layered processes, their surfaces move between clarity and disappearance, revealing and concealing information in much the same way memory itself operates. Individual paintings remain self-contained, yet together they suggest a larger psychological landscape in which they gain meaning through their relationship to one another.

K. T. Kobel

Born in 1988 in the UK, Kobel is a British artist based in Amsterdam. Working primarily in painting, his practice also encompasses photography, writing and moving image. Drawing from cinema, found photography and vernacular imagery, he reworks disparate source material into paintings that resist singular interpretation, his figures appearing as fragmented, anonymous presences suspended between intimacy and distance.

Chrysalis by Georgiana Feidi

Chrysalis considers our planet Earth as a living entity, undergoing its own cycles of rest, regeneration, and transformation. The series portrays the Earth in a state of slumber, presenting nature as an active system in continuous becoming. Through thoughtful editing techniques and a restrained blue tonal range, I explore the interdependence between human presence and natural processes. The human body appears as a state of transition, a symbol of permeability and change, mirroring natural processes of renewal.

Chrysalis examines gradual shifts and states of suspension, where stillness contains movement beneath the surface. The series reflects on cyclical time as opposed to linear progress, proposing that change is constant.
This series invites reflection on the delicate processes of renewal that govern both nature and ourselves. Just as the chrysalis shelters a transformation in silence, so too does the Earth move through its own rhythms, inviting us to recognize our place within its ongoing process of becoming.

Georgiana Feidi

Feidi is a visual artist based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, who uses both digital and analog tools, including post-processing and darkroom explorations. Her work is inspired by the mysteries of the universe, nature, and personal insights, creating visual narratives that transcend conventional boundaries of thought. She has showcased her work in solo exhibitions nationally, and in group shows both nationally and internationally.

Katrien Vanderlinden

She creates oil paintings that bring together different lives, places, and eras.
These paintings are inspired by found photographs collected from thrift stores, flea markets, and discarded family albums around the world.

Through her use of light and color, she evokes a sense of nostalgia, exploring the emotions hidden within these forgotten images.

Katrien Vanderlinden

Born in 1986, Vanderlinden is a visual artist based in Ghent, Belgium. She also works as a street artist focusing on large-scale urban interventions, gaining international recognition for her painted "hypecourts", large-scale geometric basketball court murals that fuse sport, community engagement, and playful 1980s-inspired graphic design into vibrant public artworks. Her hypecourts can be found around the world, including in Brussels, Abu Dhabi, and Berlin.

We live with and through images. For nearly two centuries, they have shaped our relationship to truth, belief, evidence, and each other. But how did images come to hold such historical authority — and how has that authority been challenged?

Our second In Focus feature gives you a glimpse of Impart’s upcoming online lecture series, ‘The Image Complex: Photography, Vision, and Belief in South Asia’, conceptualised and co-facilitated with critic, educator, and curator Aastha D.

The series explores photography's varied histories; its colonial origins; its role in media, public life, and resistance; its relationship to art, documentary truth, law, community, and the personal record; and its transformations in an increasingly automated visual culture.

Bringing together 20 scholars, photographers, editors, curators, and archivists, the lectures trace photography’s evolving role as an instrument of power, a container of memory, a medium of community, and — increasingly — a site of suspicion.

The sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 18 August to 10 September 2026, 7:00–8:30 pm (IST) on Zoom. The lecture series is free, open to all, and requires no prior subject knowledge.

Solar Recordings of Phone Calls with Family, Friends, and Scammers by Bart Urbanski

The project is a photographic series in which each image is created through a long exposure lasting exactly as long as a specific phone call. As the sun moves across the sky, the film solarises, transforming its path into a dark, otherworldly streak that records the passage of time.

Each photograph becomes a physical trace of a conversation, reflecting the rhythms of connection, intimacy, and distance. Together, the images form a visual archive of changing relationship dynamics.

Rooted in the artist's experience as an immigrant, the project explores how phone calls sustain emotional bonds across geographical separation, intentionally including conversations with scammers and telemarketers to introduce irony and expand its emotional and political scope. Solar Recordings reflects on communication as both a bridge and a barrier within a technologically connected yet emotionally distant world.

Bart Urbanski

Urbanski is a Polish contemporary photographer and artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. His practice explores perception, time, memory, and interpersonal relationships through long-term, research-led photographic projects, drawing from personal archives, conversations, and found narratives to investigate how meaning is constructed through light, distance, and repetition. He holds an MA from the Glasgow School of Art, and his work has been exhibited and published internationally, including in Canada, France, the UK, Iceland, Poland, Singapore, and the USA, and featured in Lenscratch, Dodho, Punkt.hu, TBD Ultramagazine, and Fotograf Zone Magazine. He is currently a lecturer in photography.

Pedro Gutierres

Gutierres's painting practice explores the shifting boundaries between nature and the urban landscape. Originally rooted in his everyday experiences in Serra da Cantareira, where he lives and works, his practice investigates memory, conflict, and territory within the context of the threshold between the city and the forest. Through photography, Gutierres documents his surroundings and daily encounters, later transforming and recombining these images through painting, giving them new narratives and meanings.

Pedro Gutierres

Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 1987, Gutierres is a contemporary artist based in São Paulo. His work explores the boundaries between nature and urban life, drawing from his experience living in the Serra da Cantareira, where the Atlantic Forest meets the city's periphery. Moving between drawing and painting, his practice incorporates influences from photography, video, and digital imagery while remaining deeply rooted in painting. He has held solo exhibitions in Brazil and Germany, and his work is included in the collection of MAC-RS (Museum of Contemporary Art of Rio Grande do Sul), among other public and private collections.

Frame Human by Trần Quỳnh Nhi

This is an ongoing photographic project using self-portraiture and digital montage to explore the relationship between the female body and nature. By multiplying and assembling my own body across rural landscapes, individual figures grow into crowds, frames, and larger structures. Through repetition and transformation, the body becomes a material for giving visible form to internal sensations and invisible forces.

Trần Quỳnh Nhi

Nhi is a Vietnam-based photographic artist working between photography, fashion, performing art, and lived research. She engages closely with communities and often-overlooked personal stories, finding that making images is a way of understanding the people around her and the world she shares.
