Some people are not going to like this but I’ll say it anyway.
I believe that most people don’t dislike abstract art, they’re just uncomfortable with how it makes them feel.
There’s a quiet violence in how we’re taught to approach art. As if it has to be decoded before it’s allowed to move you.
But real art doesn’t ask for understanding first. It asks for honesty. It bypasses language. It finds the places you’ve refrained entering and unsettles them.
And I think that’s why people look away before they look longer. Not because it’s confusing… but because it’s close.
Too close to something they haven’t named yet.
My art isn’t here to be solved.
It’s here to be felt - even when it’s inconvenient.
Maybe especially then.
