When heritage w**emaking meets the power of contemporary visual culture.

In an unprecedented collaboration during Angola’s Big Bottle Week, Afrikanizm partnered with Sogrape and Casa Ferreirinha to bridge two distinct expressions of craft, time, and legacy.

Transforming iconic six-liter Methuselah bottles into extraordinary three-dimensional canvases, artists Davi Dombele and Josué Dombele were invited to reimagine these monumental vessels. Each painted bottle emerged as a unique masterpiece—where the rich traditions of Portuguese viticulture dialogue seamlessly with the bold, contemporary narratives of Angolan art.

This project reinforces our commitment to expanding the boundaries of art collecting, showing how fine w**e and fine art share the same fundamental core: patience, heritage, and the pursuit of excellence.

Born and raised in Gaborone, Botswana, self-taught multidisciplinary artist Diablo Santana investigates the intersection of personal experience and collective history.

His practice moves fluidly across drawing, painting, collage, photography, video, sound, and installation, exploring identity, masculinity, grief, cultural heritage, and the psychological complexities of contemporary life in Southern Africa.

On 11 of November, last year, Angola celebrated 50 years of independence — a historic moment marked not only by ceremony, but by the power of culture, unity, and memory.

Together with Face Studio and Karga Eventos, Afrikanizm proudly joined this national celebration with a special exhibition paying tribute to Angola’s past, present, and future.

A day that gathered heads of state, diplomats, cultural leaders, and thousands of guests became, above all, a reminder of why art matters:
because it carries history, honours resilience, and preserves identity.

In a Luanda dressed in red and yellow, we witnessed a nation celebrating its journey — and reaffirmed our shared mission to amplify African voices through creativity, collaboration, and cultural impact.

A year ago, we received an incredible invitation from Gemcorp to be part of a deeply meaningful project: to map the portrait artists of Angola.

It was an intense journey of research, discovery, and celebration of our visual identity. Today, we finally have the physical book in our hands!

This publication is more than just a record; it is a mirror reflecting the diversity, talent, and unique perspective of Angolan portraitists, capturing the very essence of our people through their strokes and canvases.

Our most sincere thanks go to Gemcorp, for their trust and vision in sponsoring this project, and to Edicenter, for their exceptional work in editing and publishing this beautiful volume. Thank you for walking alongside us in our mission to document and elevate contemporary Angolan art.
