Duane Michals

We're saddened to hear of photographer Duane Michals passing. Early in Andy Warhol's career, Michals captured intimate portraits of him and his mother Julia Warhola in their New York City home. He continued to document Warhol through his photographs in the 1960s and 1970s. Many of Michals various works throughout his career told the viewer a story through multiple photographs with sometimes just a title written by him beneath one of the photographs in the series.

Both Michals and Warhol have ties to the Pittsburgh area. Michals was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and Warhol was born in the city.
