A step forward does not erase what came before. Every movement carries with it the remnants of memory, experience, and time.

Continuum brings together works that reflect endurance, transformation, and the continual process of becoming. Each piece bears traces of the experiences that shaped it, revealing how the past remains present through gesture, color, material, and form.

Artist Spotlight

John A. Dinglasa is a Cebuano artist whose talent first gained recognition after winning the Grand Prize in the 2005 On-the-Spot Painting Competition organized by Cebu Artists Incorporated in Samboan, Cebu. His achievement led artist and mentor Celso Duazo Pepito to invite him to Cebu City to further develop his artistic practice through workshops and exhibitions.

Despite financial challenges and the loss of his father, Dinglasa remained committed to deepening his artistic education. In 2007, he participated in Pepito’s art workshop at a Gallery in Banilad, Cebu City, and was later invited to join his first group exhibition. These opportunities marked the beginning of his professional artistic journey, allowing him to exhibit alongside established artists and continue developing his practice.

Artist Spotlight

Jobril Villaver was born in Cebu City on March 13, 1959. His early interest in painting has brought him to the halls of the University of the Philippines Cebu College where he had completed his Certificate of Fine Arts in 1980.

Villaver’s works are reflective of his concern and appreciation for the Filipinos’ tenacity in dealing with life, appreciating not only the positive but also the negative aspect of living. He employs heavy textures, applies radiating warm and cool colors and uses heavy lines to emphasize his chosen subject.

Artist Spotlight

Ryan Roy G. Barral is a Cebuano artist and a graduate of Civil Engineering from San Jose Recoletos. He worked as a design engineer for a private company before becoming an active artist. He learned portraiture from one of the students of Martino Abellana, known in Cebu as the “Amorsolo of the South.” Among his influences are classical Impressionist and Post-Expressionist artists, such as Van Gogh.

Artist Spotlight

Irvin Benlot is a Cebu City-based artist who earned his Fine Arts degree, majoring in Advertising Arts, from the University of San Carlos – Technological Center. Encouraged by his mentors, Jose “Kimsoy” Yap Jr. and the late Jorge Lao, he pursued painting as his primary practice.

Working primarily in watercolor, Benlot draws inspiration from nature through landscapes, seascapes, and scenes of countryside life. Influenced by artists such as Winslow Homer, Joaquín Sorolla, Andrew Wyeth, Anders Zorn, and John Singer Sargent, he admires their ability to capture the essence of a subject through a harmonious balance of drawing and color. His body of work revolves around nature, everyday life, and religious iconography.

Artist Spotlight

Bryan Cuico Ulgasan (b. 1987), from Calatrava, Negros Occidental, he studied Information Technology at St. Cecilia College. While working as a student for the Yap family, he encountered Kimsoy Yap, a master artist in Cebu, who greatly influenced his artistic journey.

Immersed in the arts through his role as an aide-de-camp to a maestro, he developed a deep appreciation for aesthetics and craftsmanship. Actively engaging with various art groups and participating in numerous shows and art-related events, he honed his skills and artistic sensibilities. Since picking up a brush for the first time, he has created a substantial collection of works, showcasing his growth and passion for artmaking.

Exhibition lasts until October 16.
