Dear all, today was the opening of the fifth edition of Art Island IJmuiden. Frank Taal Galerie is presenting Rotterdam artist Daan den Houter. I just want to share with you that we experienced a truly wonderful day, blessed by the sunny weather, in good company with great presentations from our colleagues, warmly welcomed by our hosts, Jacko and Frits, and so much enjoyed welcoming a beautiful audience.
We are thankful for all the interest and the intelligent, warm conversations we had with all our visitors.
We look forward to welcoming you to our munitions lift booth tomorrow and on Sunday!

(1988) has a fondness for subjects that radiate a casual everydayness. In his paintings, across a variety of genres and subjects, he captures those things that, in all their triviality, pass unnoticed before our eyes. Through the care with which he depicts seemingly meaningless details, he hopes to evoke a concentrated way of looking.
Through painterly techniques such as light, color, the organization of the image, and the rhythm of linework, he searches for a balance between underlying abstraction and realism.

'Anthropocene in Blue and Gold No.1' (2026) explores the alternative use of untraditional materials, “making something out of nothing” to create an artistic experience that reflects on contemporary society.

astrid ’s works encompass installations, photographs, paper works, objects, and moving images. Her works are often based on architectural designs or places that she investigates for their sensual perceptibility and their impact on the human being. Her motifs refer to found and self-created images that are transformed and altered in dimensions and then translated onto various image carriers in the space under complex lighting conditions.

Frank Taal Galerie is pleased to present Frank Halmans in (P)REVIEW III, the third chapter of an evolving exhibition series that unfolds between recollection and anticipation — a dialogue between what has been and what is yet to come.

In his series *Gebilde* or *Installation without a House*, he reveals the anatomy of architectural structures. He treats the pipes and wiring in houses as a muscular and nervous system, a network of blood and lymph vessels, and as a skeleton. Architectural specimens in which systems have been separated from the structures they serve. It is as if he were performing a dissection on a building.

Frank Taal Gallery is pleased to present (P)REVIEW III, the third chapter of an evolving exhibition series that unfolds between recollection and anticipation — a dialogue between what has been and what is yet to come.
(P)REVIEW III builds directly on our presence at Art Rotterdam 2026, where we were proud to present our three focus artists — Isabelle Borges, Daan den Houter, and Gerben Mulder — alongside a salon-style presentation of the gallery’s wider group of artists. Art Rotterdam 2026 marked not only an important moment of visibility, but also reflected a broader trajectory shaped by past exhibitions, collaborations, and ongoing dialogues within the gallery.

Introducing: Tim Mastik, a Rotterdam-based artist who explores the boundaries between painting and sculpture through a material-driven, process-oriented practice; and Frank Halmans, whose work transforms everyday objects and architectural forms into poetic, dreamlike compositions that hover between reality and imagination.

Artists:
Alban Karsten, Astrid Busch, Bram Braam, Daan den Houter, Florens Kool, Frank Halmans, Gerben Mulder, Hester Scheurwater, Isabelle Borges, Jake Kelly, Julia Schewalie, Marilou van Lierop, Mike Ottink, Pieter Jan Martyn, Ruben Mols, Saminte Ekeland, Stephen J Shanabrook, Tom Woestenborghs, Tim Mastik, Vincent Zanni, Wolfgang Ganter, Zoë d’Hont.
