Magdalena, the eldest daughter, nicknamed Puck, was nineteen when the family moved to Sonneveld House. She was given the larger of the two children’s bedrooms with a magnificent terrace accessible only from her room. The girls’ rooms had the same furnishings but in different colours: Puck chose blue.

New Garden has been part of the outdoor space of the Nieuwe Instituut since 2015. It is used to raise current design issues. Ecological management and creating a high level of biodiversity are the starting points. In the winter of 2021, the garden was redesigned due to the restructuring of the Museum Park. Since then, work has been done on the ecological restoration of the garden. 🌳

Open Call Design Fair 2026: Designs for a Regenerative Future 🌱

Are you a designer, maker or craftsperson who works with bio-based materials or regenerative products? Or perhaps you specialise in repairing or upcycling items such as household appliances or furniture? If so, we want to hear from you!

The Design Fair 2026 celebrates circular, regenerative and sustainable design. The fair is much more than just an exhibition. It’s also a vibrant platform for action, exchange, and education. Visitors can buy products, take part in workshops, and have their broken items repaired or transformed.

We are selecting participants based on three central categories:

♻️ Bio-based materials: designers who experiment with sustainable, natural materials.

♻️ Repair and transformation: craftspeople who repair and transform products on the spot, from coffee makers to armchairs.

♻️ Regenerative products: designs that actively contribute to the restoration of ecosystems.

Design Fair 2026: Designs for a Regenerative Future 🌱

🗓️ 27 September 2026

⏰️ 11:00 to 17:00.

📍Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam (under the Arcade and in the Nieuwe Café).
