Everybody knows that Philips is from the Netherlands, but the Netherlands had a few big computer brands as well. Most of you are aware of Tulip computers. At its peek, Tulip as number 4 of computer manufacturers in Europe, and number 2 in the Netherlands. Quite impressive for a company from a town called Den Bosch! The company started in 1979 by Franz Hetzenauer and Rob Romein. In 1997 Tulip took over Escom and Commodore. Despite its huge succes, they couldn't compete on price anymore (among other reasons) and after selling off parts of the company, including the high end manufacturing plant, the name disappeared in 2006 by renaming it to Terra Computers. In 2008 it renamed again to Nedfield but that didn't save it either, the final remainders of the company that once was huge, died in september 2009.

Here are a few of the rarest Tulip computers in the collection of the HomeComputerMuseum. Even the PC Extend which was originally named the PC Advance, but Ferranti didn't like that ;)

In the first comment, we'll post a link to an episode of Brabantse Merken from Omroep Brabant, where we provided a lot of material and even had one of the founders of Tulip computers giving an interview because we asked him to do (first time since he left the company in 1997).

It's not common that we have to ask this. Perhaps even the first time. But we are looking for a complete NeXTCube. Either to buy or on loan.

You may wonder why? Well, we had two. One was a loan from a good friend and he wanted to have it back a while ago. No problem, we had it for a few years and we have another one.

However, the other one is now temporary (a few months) in another museum for an exhibition. Meaning, we have a big hole in our museum!

So, we really need a complete NeXTcube, including monitor, keyboard and mouse. Prefer working, but we can repair it. We can pick it up in or around the Netherlands, or it can be sent to us.

It can either be bought by us (within reasonable price) or as a loan with or without end time. In both cases, we'll take care of it, and keep the machine in at least the same condition that it's in.

We're not only selling old stuff here at the Retro Center!

Of course we have the brand new Commodore 64 Ultimate in stock, but we also have brand new keyboards! Never used, PS/2 keyboards. Or this nice mouse from Artec, fully sealed and ready for your needs. You do need MS-DOS 5.0 or higher for that!

If you need to upgrade, we have brand new Pentium III processors in stock! Who ever needs more than 600 MHz!

Glad you asked, yes, we have floppy drives. We even provide new floppy drives for Commodore Amiga in case you need those.

Afraid that your laptop or desktop gets stolen? We have new Kensington locks for you!

Still running MS-DOS 5.0 or lower? We have a sealed upgrade to MS-DOS 6.0. It can even double your disk space!

Of course we have ways to backup first. Brand new 5.25 and 3.5 inch disks, or go fancy with a 100MB ZIP or 4.7 GB on DVD! Yes, we have 650MB CD's too and even Sony MO-disks (on sale, only €1 each!)

A nice donation of MSX came in today.

A former employee of Philips, who worked on many television, brought in his old computers. A very nicely preserved Philips VG-8235 MSX2, a Philips keyboard that is modified and now has a ZX81 inside of it and the Spectravideo SV728 in box.

But also a lot of documentation and a complete Philips NMS 1205 Music Module. Back in the day, I wish I had one of these. Did you have or want one?

Also, we're looking for volunteers on Saturday to help us on the busiest day of the week. We're talking about selling tickets, making sure the computers are functional and perhaps talk to visitors. We are also looking for volunteers in the Retro Center to help sell things. Dutch speaking is preferred. Let us know in a private message if you are interested or have questions.

Tomorrow we're doing something we haven't done before. A temporary exhibition!

We put our collection of calculators out in the open. Starting with pre 1960s calculators, then going to our Anita Mark8 and Friden EC-130. Of course we also show the Commodore 202 Adding machine, the beautiful Olivetti P101 and our Altair 8800 and PET 2001.

Just a jump into the history of computers, from the era when a computer was only needed to calculate :)

A while ago, we have finally got a CompuColor II after years of searching. It was sent from Denmark to us and at first, the computer (screen) arrived and the keyboard was lost for a few days. It ended up being found at a neighbour of the museum and everything's fine.

As seen yesterday, we received a huge donation with material and we started to unpack it today. One of the first things we noticed, is not one, but four keyboards for a CompuColor II! Unfortunately, no CompuColor that we found so far, but talking about odd findings.

We also found a box with disks for the CompuColor (as it states on the box), both 5,25" and 8". So, we're hoping to find something more for that.

But, the score apart from 4 CompuColor keyboards is 2 BBC Micro-B, 5 Vendex Headstart computers, an IBM 5161 case with IBM 5151 monitor, but we haven't opened it up yet but it may be a computer inside. The extra (non IBM) badge claims 386. We also got other random 386 and 486 computers. One computer we tried, had a broken MDA/CGA videocard.

Also this really heave Akai X-500VT which is for video apparently. This is going to a friend of us who can use those AV-materials more than we do.

Does anyone know if these keyboards for CompuColor have been used for something else?

4 rolling containers and a neat box came in today. A donation from our friends of the museum, it-recycling.

it-recycling is a recycling company (the name is pretty self-explaining) and data destruction company. But sometimes, they pick-up some material that's perfect for in the museum. Instead of recycling it, we can select what's interesting for the museum and give it a second life there. Either as something to show, for parts or after cleaning we can sell it to the community for a low price where others can enjoy.

Some real cool stuff in there, including a big VR-set from Sophos with a MSI laptop. We also found some colorful keyboards we don't recognize, a Google server, at least 4 Headstart Explorers and a Yamaha drumcomputer. Also a few CRT screens, an IBM 5150 and probably some 386, 486 and Pentium computers.

In the next few days we're going to unpack everything and decide what's going to happen with each individual item. That'll keep us busy for a while! And yes, we can still use volunteers ;)

A massive thanks to it-recycling for trying to give this a second life through us.
