En novembre 2021, vingt-six trésors royaux du royaume du Dahomey quittent la France pour être restitués à leur pays d’origine devenu le Bénin, après plus d’un siècle d’absence. À travers le voyage de ces œuvres et les débats qu’elles suscitent parmi les étudiants de l’Université d’Abomey-Calavi, Mati Diop interroge les enjeux de la restitution du patrimoine africain, de la mémoire coloniale et de la transmission de l’histoire.

Dahomey, primé en 2024 à Berlin, donne voix aux objets et aux jeunes générations, offrant un regard factuel et poétique, sur les questions d’identité, de mémoire et de souveraineté culturelle.

La projection sera suivie d’un échange avec Yvon Langué, curateur et co-commissaire de l’exposition Il était une fois la naissance du Staat Kamerun, 1884–1914, autour de la thématique des restitutions.

In November 2021, twenty-six royal treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey left France to be returned to their country of origin, today Benin, after more than a century during which they had been displayed in French cultural institutions. Through the journey of these works and the debates it sparked among students at the University of Abomey-Calavi, Mati Diop explores the issues surrounding the restitution of African heritage, colonial memory and the transmission of history.

Dahomey, which won a prestigious award in Berlin in 2024, gives voice to objects of cultural heritage and to younger generations, offering a factual and poetic perspective on issues of identity, memory, and cultural sovereignty.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Yvon Langué, co-curator of the exhibition Once Upon a Time…the Birth of Staat Kamerun (1884–1914), on the theme of restitutions.

La présentation et la signature de l’ouvrage Quand l’Atlantique raconte l’histoire du Maroc de Leila Maziane a offert l’occasion d’une rencontre passionnante consacrée aux liens profonds qui unissent le Maroc et l’océan Atlantique.

À travers les récits de l’autrice, l’histoire maritime du Royaume du Maroc a dessiné sur la carte un espace de circulations, de rencontres et de mémoires, dont l’océan est devenu un véritable fil conducteur entre les époques et les territoires.

Un échange riche, porté par la parole et la transmission, qui a permis d’ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives sur ces histoires atlantiques.

Merci à Leila Maziane pour la qualité de son intervention, et au public pour sa présence et son attention.

The presentation and book signing of Leila Maziane's “Quand l’Atlantique raconte l’histoire du Maroc” [When the Atlantic Tells the Story of Morocco] provided an opportunity for us to learn about the profound ties that bind Morocco and the Atlantic Ocean.

The author guided us through a landscape of exchanges, encounters and memories that have constructed the maritime history of the Kingdom of Morocco, in which the ocean becomes a true thread connecting different eras and territories.

This informative evening was driven by conversation and the sharing of knowledge as we opened new perspectives on these Atlantic histories.

We extend our thanks to Leila Maziane for her enlightening presentation, and to the members of the audience for their presence and attentiveness.

[CONCERT]

Le Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, en partenariat avec l’Instituto Cervantes Marrakech, a le plaisir d’accueillir le pianiste José Alberto Medina pour une soirée exceptionnelle le mercredi 10 juin à 19h00.
Le pianiste accompagnera sur scène la projection de deux films muets de Luis Buñuel : « Tierras sin pan » (Terre sans pain, 1933, 27 min. 39 sec.) et « Un perro andaluz » (Un chien andalou, 1929, 21 min. 48 sec.).
Le concertiste José Alberto Medina accompagnera la projection de ces films de créations musicales qu’il a lui-même composées, et qui ont été ont été pensées pour les images de ces deux joyaux de la première période du grand cinéaste espagnol.

The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, in partnership with the Instituto Cervantes Marrakech, is honored to welcome the pianist José Alberto Medina for an exceptional evening on Wednesday, June 10th at 7:00 p.m.

The pianist will accompany the screening of two silent films by Luis Buñuel: “Tierras sin pan” (Land Without Bread, 1933, 27 min. 39 sec.) and “Un perro andaluz” (Un Chien Andalou, 1929, 21 min. 48 sec.).

The concert pianist José Alberto Medina will accompany the screenings with original musical compositions he composed for these two gems from the renowned Spanish filmmaker’s early period.
