KALPA Art Living

KALPA Art Living We offer our collectors artworks to invest in: timeless beauty masterfully executed.

We embrace artful life through harmony between aesthetics and ethics, a profound and spiritual connection of nature, culture and intellect. OUR GALLERIES:

Based in the historical centre of Volterra (Tuscany), KALPA is located in Palazzo Bonomini, a fascinating building a few steps away from the famous Etruscan city gate Porta all’Arco. The Gallery’s vision revolves around the concepts of high art

istic refinement, the intuitive passion of craftsmanship and a holistic approach to interior design. The style balances elegance and simplicity, contemporary and past, West and East in an all-encompassing wabi-sabi sensibility. At KALPA, both the languages of art and design, tradition and innovation, are selected in order to establish a stimulating synergy, and then harmoniously presented to visitors as objects to become part of their daily life and space. Spanning painting, alabaster, bronze, ceramics and wood, Gallery artists’ inspiration begins with the observation of Nature, its physical and conceptual forms. Sophisticated and elegant atmosphere, sober and minimalistic furniture and warm neutral tones, KALPA’s main space is an in-progress project giving a platform for various arts in its time-hallowed rooms. Beginning with the restoration work of the ground floor in the spring of 2019, KALPA expands its exhibition space in 2022, unveiling Palazzo Bonomini’s beauty step by step, and following criteria of recovery, preservation and valorisation of its historical value and original atmosphere.

From the 2025 solo exhibition Intimate Mythologies by Roberta Busato, the magnetic bas-relief in agata alabaster “Leda” presents a female figure who lies on a swan feather. A pale vein runs across the body, emphasising its softness while introducing an element of emotional tension. Eyes closed in reflection, the figure merges with the swan and surrounding foliage, rendered through delicate engraved details.

Anthropomorphic and abstract elements intertwine in a suspended state where transformation becomes possible. Busato presents a fertile space of inner metamorphosis, a threshold where identities overlap and evolve, and where the myth is no longer narrated but lived.

KALPA is honoured to welcome a new collection of works from Pierre Bonnefille’s Bronze, Carbon, and Ice paintings series. Each piece presents an abstract landscape, and it features a unique composition of mineral pigments designed to elicit a visceral, emotional response from the viewer.

The Bronze Paintings represent an encounter between Euro-American abstraction and East Asian philosophy. Imbued with an Impressionist ethos, they capture subjects according to perception, utilising asymmetrical foreshortening and invoking movement within a three-dimensional space. The use of gold, evoking divinity, the art of alchemy, and the regenerative power of the sun, creates a radiant gold that signifies transformation and a spiritual realm.

Among the exhibited works in Janine Thüngen-Reichenbach's solo exhibition "Indentations of Memory" is the latest series “Baumwelt”, serving as silent sentinels of trees' resilience.

These sculptures, formed from imprints of ancient barks from Rome and identified by the individual tree’s Latin nomenclature, transform natural scars and imperfections into a textured, meteoric aesthetic. Ultimately, they function as a living archive, moving beyond their botanical origins to offer a universal meditation on the strength and profound precariousness of all life.

KALPA is proud to inaugurate the Gallery’s new art season with Janine Thüngen-Reichenbach's solo exhibition of sculpture in bronze and washi paper, entitled Indentations of Memory, on display at Palazzo Bonomini in Volterra until August 2026. The title of the exhibition finds its roots in the Medieval Latin indentāre, meaning "to furnish with teeth", emphasising the visceral, biting nature of time.

Janine’s solo show, presenting an iconic washi paper work alongside a significant body of bronze sculptures - a material renowned for its durability and nobility - is deeply sensorial. It is an invitation to inhabit the penumbra of the room and engage with art forms that demand to be touched and felt.

For the Milan Design Week 2026, KALPA’s multidisciplinary collection inhabits the modernist Molteni Pavilion in Giussano. Within the Vincent Van Duysen-designed architecture, the latest installation brings together the contemporary works of Guillem Nadal (Spain), Marco Bellini (Italy), Konrad Koppold (Germany), and Kate Windibank (UK).

Defined by a warm and serene Mediterranean spirit, the tactile materiality of the works, spanning painting, ceramics, and wood compositions, radiates a subtle glow that complements the modernist-inspired structure, breathing a reborn organic vitality into the building’s clean, disciplined lines.

Part of the solo exhibition Intimate Mythologies by Roberta Busato, the sculpture Rocce, 2025, presents the inner geology of bardiglio alabaster stone from the Etruscan city of Volterra, with all its unique features. Bearing the evocative title Rocce, the Italian word for “stones”, the sculpture serves as a tribute to the raw essence of the material itself. It consists of alternating transparent and opaque areas, filled with mineral inclusions, oxides, and veins, and narrates an underground microcosm.

Balancing strength and fragility, lustre and roughness, Busato allows matter to dictate form and reveal its inner soul. Rocce appears as a threshold between worlds, where natural processes of the matter itself and the artist’s creative act converge in a state of perpetual transformation.

Ash is the origin and the completion. In the "Cineres" series, Michele Bruna explores the artwork's full life cycle, from conception to transformation. The dense, nuanced surfaces, marked by shifting grey shades from the ash and water mix, feature translucent passages alongside thick, tactile matter. Different spatulas create a dynamic balance between solid surfaces and silent voids.

Bruna's creative process is a physical, almost ritual immersion. Working around the canvas on the floor, he allows gravity and natural material movement to shape the final outcome. Error becomes possibility; collapse turns into renewal.
Born in Cuneo in 1990 and trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera under the guidance of Italo Bressan, Bruna has developed a language in which any material can become an expressive fragment, capable of narrating the transience of the artwork and, like every living form, its inevitable transformation.
