Destabilized explores the volatile boundary between conscious identity and the unpredictable currents of the human unconscious. The unconscious is not a quiet, hidden vault—it is a living, permeable membrane that constantly warps, fragments, and restructures how we perceive ourselves and the world around us.
The video unfolds as a sequence of surreal psychological mutations where human faces shift, fracture behind cracked glass, dissolve under fluid barriers, and become entangled in webbed networks of wire and thread. These physical disturbances—the glass, grid-lines, wires, and liquid layers—serve as visual conduits for raw, unexpressed internal states. They represent the delicate structures we construct to maintain internal order, and the inevitable moment those structures break down.

Destabilized esplora il confine instabile tra l’identità cosciente e le correnti imprevedibili dell’inconscio umano. L’inconscio non è un archivio silenzioso e nascosto: è una membrana viva e permeabile che deforma, frammenta e ristruttura costantemente il modo in cui percepiamo noi stessi e il mondo che ci circonda.
Il video si sviluppa come una sequenza di mutazioni psicologiche surreali, in cui i volti umani si trasformano, si fratturano dietro vetri incrinati, si dissolvono sotto barriere fluide e rimangono impigliati in reti intrecciate di fili metallici e fili. Queste alterazioni fisiche — il vetro, le linee della griglia, i fili e gli strati liquidi — fungono da canali visivi per stati interiori grezzi e inespressi. Rappresentano le fragili strutture che costruiamo per mantenere un ordine interiore e l’inevitabile momento in cui queste strutture si disgregano.

Place of Power is one of the works from my collection Thresholds of Consciousness, which emerged during a period of profound inner transformation.
During that time, I began to experience very powerful realizations. These were profound inner experiences. Almost every such state was accompanied by images, which I immediately captured in sketches.
At a certain point while searching for something to rely on, I felt that the true source of strength was not in the external world, but within, and that it could always be accessed at any moment.
This is how the work Place of Power came into being.
For me, the unconscious is not something distant or abstract, but a deep part of the human being that speaks to us through feelings, intuition, and images. I wanted this work to become a space in which each viewer could encounter their own feelings and find their own meaning.

Place of Power è una delle opere della mia collezione Thresholds of Consciousness, nata durante un periodo di profonda trasformazione interiore.
In quel periodo, ho iniziato ad avere consapevolezze molto intense. Si trattava di profonde esperienze interiori. Quasi ogni stato di questo tipo era accompagnato da immagini, che riportavo immediatamente nei miei schizzi.
A un certo punto, mentre cercavo qualcosa su cui fare affidamento, ho sentito che la vera fonte di forza non si trovava nel mondo esterno, ma dentro di noi, e che era sempre possibile accedervi, in qualsiasi momento.
È così che è nata l’opera Place of Power.
Per me, l’inconscio non è qualcosa di distante o astratto, ma una parte profonda dell’essere umano che ci parla attraverso sensazioni, intuizioni e immagini. Volevo che quest’opera diventasse uno spazio in cui ogni spettatore potesse entrare in contatto con le proprie sensazioni e trovare il proprio significato.

Ceramic, treated wood, synthetic fur, resin, ink, 2020, 29 x 20 x 29h cm

The work originated from a piece of olive wood that already naturally suggested the shape of a heart.
To the wooden form, treated with plaster and protective varnish, I added ceramic elements and synthetic fur, colored with black ink.
At the intersections, I inserted natural resin, which slowly drips over time, like blood from wounds.
Preservation is permeated by an esoteric and emotional poetics that merges the physical and the spiritual, while creating an introspective and universal vision that sees the heart as an emotional and psychic vessel, bringing together care, conflict, and elevation—a nuanced exploration of identity and the interconnected mechanisms of the human mind.

Ceramica, legno trattato, pelliccia sintetica, resina, china, 2020, 29 x 20 x 29h cm

L’opera nasce a partire da un pezzo di legno di ulivo, alludendo già spontaneamente a una forma di cuore.
Alla sagoma di legno poi trattato con gesso e vernice protettiva ho aggiunto elementi in ceramica e pelliccia sintetica, tinteggiata con china nera.
Nelle intersezioni ho inserito resina naturale, che va lentamente nel tempo a colare, come sangue da delle ferite.
Preservation è permeata da una poetica esoterica e emotiva, che fonde il fisico e lo spirituale, creando al contempo una visione introspettiva e universale che guarda al cuore come un involucro emotivo e psichico, che unisce cura, conflitto e elevazione, un’esplorazione sfumata dell’identità e della connessione dei meccanismi della mente
umana.

In flower therapy, the archaic flower is associated with a primordial energetic memory. It reconnects us with the deep roots of being, stability, and original life force. By using this healing method on myself, I expressed my deepest emotions through painting. In blue, I seek creative communication. In green, the opening of the heart. In white, clarity. In the dark gray areas, emotional detachment.

In floriterapia il fiore arcaico é legato a una memoria energetica primordiale. Ci riconnette con le radici profonde dell’essere, la stabilità e la forza vitale originaria. Utilizzando su me stessa questo metodo curativo ho espresso in pittura le mie emozioni piu profonde. Nel blu cerco la comunicazione creativa. Nel verde l’apertura del cuore. Nel bianco la chiarezza. Nelle parti in grigio scuro il distacco emotivo.

What if there is a point where all possible and impossible realities converge?
In one of them, Pisa is underwater, octopuses drift through its streets, and giant carrots grow between the buildings. And this is only one of the realities you can enter in AORTA.
But the strangest part is that the place where these realities meet doesn’t exist only in the novel. It has a real address in Pisa.

INVADE by SJD

INVADE is a site-responsive installation composed of approximately 50 unframed photographic prints extracted frame by frame from a moving image. Each print (20 x 12 cm) is mounted directly onto the wall using removable adhesive, allowing the work to adapt to the architecture and rhythm of the exhibition space. Rather than functioning as a static display, the installation unfolds in direct dialogue with its surroundings, transforming the wall into a fragmented field of images.
The work originates from a video sequence that is dismantled into individual frames and redistributed across space. By translating a time-based medium into a spatial composition, INVADE interrupts the continuity of the original moving image. The viewer no longer experiences the work through linear duration but through physical movement, reconstructing
the sequence by walking, looking, and connecting fragments. The installation becomes an expanded image in which time is dispersed rather than contained.

INVADE di SJD
Stampe su carta, 2020, ogni stampa (20 x 12 cm)

INVADE è un’installazione site-responsive composta da circa 50 stampe fotografiche senza cornice, estratte fotogramma per fotogramma da un’immagine in movimento. Ogni stampa (20 x 12 cm) è montata direttamente sulla parete utilizzando un adesivo rimovibile, permettendo all’opera di adattarsi all’architettura e al ritmo dello spazio espositivo. Piuttosto che funzionare come un’esposizione statica, l’installazione si sviluppa in dialogo diretto con l’ambiente circostante, trasformando la parete in un campo frammentato di immagini.
L’opera nasce da una sequenza video che viene scomposta in singoli fotogrammi e ridistribuita nello spazio. Trasformando un medium basato sul tempo in una composizione spaziale, INVADE interrompe la continuità dell’immagine in movimento originale. Lo spettatore non vive più l’opera attraverso una durata lineare, ma attraverso il movimento fisico, ricostruendo la sequenza camminando, osservando e collegando i frammenti. L’installazione diventa un’immagine espansa in cui il tempo è disperso anziché contenuto.
