Pinksummer Contemporary Art

Pinksummer Contemporary Art www.pinksummer.com Pinksummer represents the following artists: Alis / Filliol, The Icelandic Love Corporation, M. Castillo Deball, P. Dejanoff, M. Dion, S. Vitone.

Pinksummer is active in Genova since 2000, presenting the work of international and Italian artists through gallery exhibition projects but also organizing a variety of site specific events, involving different public and private institutions, aiming for contributing to the development of the local cultural environment. Galegati, Gruppo A12, K. Jeong-A, G. Ben- Ner, Jorge Peris, T. Putrih, J. Queiroz, T. Saraceno, B. Sarcevic, S. Silva, G. Starr, C. Viel, L. Outside the gallery, pinksummer made happen among the others, Vanessa Beecroft!s performance VB 48, held at Palazzo Ducale (Genova) in 2001 on the occasion of G8 meeting and Pink Rabbit made up in Artesina (CN) by Gelitin in 2004. Together with the local Municipality, a sound performance by Carsten Nicolai and a lecture programme (Ceal Floyer, Georgina Starr, Carsten Nicolai) were organized in Genova. For the 53th Venice Biennale, the gallery produced together with Ivonne Lambert (Paris), the work presented there by Koo Jeong-A and supported the realization of Tomas Saraceno!s installation by finding two Italian sponsors. Pinksummer exhibitions invitation cards are artist projects themselves. Artists are asked to choose for the card an image, from history of art or from any other source, that in their opinion best represents the work they present at pinksummer. Pinksummer produces editions, conceived exclusively for the gallery in the same format and limited number, that are available at starting price of 50,00 Euro. Recently, pinksummer promoted a petition to let the political local institution open a call for a professional curator in charge for the programme of the civic contemporary art Museum, that has always been directed by a public employee not specifically knowledgeable about contemporary art.

Pinksummer is pleased to announce the presentation of Cesare Viel’s book on 10 September 2026, h7 pm, Pinksummer.

Si può tremare per una frase (One Can Tremble at a Phrase) is a book edited by the artist himself, bringing together the performance texts of Cesare Viel, written over more than thirty years of artistic practice. Thirty texts, selected and arranged chronologically, conceived to be performed by the artist, either alone or together with other performers, through a range of different approaches: lecture performances, video, audio interventions, environmental installations, and relational devices.
An opportunity to explore the role of writing in Viel’s practice: a fundamental aspect of his work, whose full complexity has not always been fully grasped. The writings collected here can also be read in their pure textual dimension: as fragmentary narratives, stories, dialogues, and monologues. Between expressiveness, subjectivity, and thought in action.
The hybrid identity of these texts—and, more broadly, of the conceptual dimension of Viel’s entire oeuvre—is evident from the outset of his artistic research in the late 1980s. Around recurring themes: the word, the voice, the body, gender identity, the relationship with space, the social context, and personal and collective memory.
An archive of living traces that are activated on the page as well as in the mind of the reader. Attention and dispersal, strength and fragility, presence and latency are among the currents running through this magmatic, embodied, undisciplined methodology, which is at the same time consistently coherent and rigorous.

Pinksummer is pleased to announce the participation of Invernomuto in the Biennale de Lyon (19.09.26 - 13.12.26) with "Paraflu”, co-directed with Michela de Mattei.

"Paraflu" traverses the mountain landscapes of Northern Italy to follow the return of the wolf. It examines this predator as an archetypal symbol of conflict, marvel, and transformation, while also questioning the complexities of coexistence between humans and wildlife. Suspended between investigative narrative and abstract representation, the film shifts across multiple perspectives: the wolf, the shepherd, the hunter, the magician, and the spectator. Set in a territory where collective fears and cultural dynamics clash with those of nature, the film’s title harks back to a real event: an act of revenge against a pack of wolves, poisoned with Paraflu, a common antifreeze. Shot on 16mm film, "Paraflu" combines real footage with AI-generated scenes and voiceovers trained on the voices of Italian illusionist Mago Silvan and ecofeminist Val Plumwood. Deliberately misleading, the work invites spectators to confront their own role.

"By definition, white light contains the whole spectrum of frequencies in it—so more of less, all colors. The definition of white noise has been also created in relation to this—because with white noise, too, you basically have all the frequencies inside. And if you look at it, it is also a very beautiful metaphor—how a white light, which we tend to consider the purest and simplest form, is actually a maximum you can filter any color out of, because that color is already inside of it. And the same goes for white noise: any kind of music piece, any kind of noise, or sound, is already inside of it. White is like a huge piece of marble: you can create any kind of sculpture with it—and the same goes for the matter surrounding us. So, even though white always feels so pure and empty to us, it is actually the complete opposite. White is the absolute maximum."

“More than just a work of art, The Sanctuary of Water (2026) will be a place to celebrate water, enabling the communities to generate income from ecotourism and draw attention to their critical situation.
The exhibition explores ways in which we can maintain the balance of shared environments, encouraging a view of water not as a raw material, but as a living entity that deserves respect and care.
“Ancestral Futures” expands beyond the walls of Haus der Kunst, opening up to the Eisbach River with the newly created Community Garden Ostwiese and the sculpture Cloud Cities: Species of spaces (2023 – 2026) on the Terrasse Ost, providing seasonal spaces for communal habitats for various species, including birds, insects and spiders, as well as for the first time, inviting dogs to experience Haus der Kunst through their sense of smell.
Throughout the exhibition, the landscape of the English Garden will become an extended playing field with guided walks led by experts from Max Planck Society. On site, open workshops will see the creation of a Museo Aero Solar, built from repurposed plastic bags. Finally, in the autumn, an attempt will be made to launch the collaboratively created solar sculpture into the air.
The exhibition continues a programme shaped by Fujiko Nakaya‘s fog installations (2022), Philippe Parreno’s El Aimendral (2024) and, in particular, the current exhibition “Steina: Playback”, in which landscape, atmosphere and the elemental forces can be experienced as living and interconnected systems.
Just as Nakaya’s mist spread towards the Eisbach River and the English Garden, Saraceno too opens up the building to the surrounding landscape, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside, between human and non-human worlds.”

Curated by Sarah Johanna Theurer and Andrea Lissoni.
