Propaganda leaflet dropped by German troops targeting French soldiers of the FEC (French Expeditionary Corps) during the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944.

Psychological warfare was an integral component of the engagement between Allied and German forces seeking to breach the Gustav Line during the Second World War. Both sides employed propaganda, leaflets, and radio broadcasts to demoralize enemy troops and influence their decision-making. The primary objective was to weaken soldier morale, encourage surrenders, and undermine the enemy's will to fight.

Volantino di propaganda lanciato dalle truppe tedesche contro i soldati francesi del CEF (Corpo di spedizione francese) durante la Battaglia di Cassino nel 1944.

La guerra psicologica fu parte della battaglia tra Alleati e tedeschi per sfondare la Linea Gustav durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Entrambe le parti utilizzarono propaganda, volantini, messaggi radio per demoralizzare il nemico e influenzarne le decisioni. L’obiettivo era indebolire il morale dei soldati, favorire le rese e ridurre la volontà di combattere.

In Largo Dante, Cassino, the bronze statue of General Władysław Anders commemorates the commander of the 2nd Polish Corps, who played a leading role in the Battle of Monte Cassino in May 1944 during Operation Diadem.The monument depicts him wearing his military cap, with binoculars around his neck and a walking stick in his right hand.
Behind him, a memorial wall bears the names of the fallen Polish soldiers, serving as a testament to the sacrifice of the 2nd Polish Corps and the deep historical bond between Cassino and the Polish people.

In Largo Dante, a Cassino, la statua in bronzo del Generale Władysław Anders ricorda il comandante del II Corpo d’Armata Polacco, protagonista della battaglia di Montecassino nel maggio 1944, combattuta nell’ambito dell’Operazione Diadem.
L’opera lo raffigura con il cappello militare, i binocoli al collo e il bastone nella mano destra.
Alle sue spalle, un muro commemorativo riporta i nomi dei caduti polacchi, a testimonianza del sacrificio dei soldati del II Corpo d’Armata Polacco e del profondo legame storico tra Cassino e il popolo polacco.

A detail of the display dedicated to the French Expeditionary Corps, preserved inside the Gari River War Exposition Museum in Cassino.

Under the command of General Alphonse Juin, the French troops—consisting primarily of soldiers from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Senegal—Deployed in the mountains of the Terelle aerea, thanks to their experience in difficoult grounds. They were then redeployedto the Aurunci Mountains where, as part of Operation Diadem in May 1944, they became the first to breach the German defensive system known as the Gustav Line.

Un dettaglio dell’allestimento dedicato al Corpo di Spedizione Francese, custodito all’interno del Museo Gari River War Exposition di Cassino.

Sotto il comando del generale Alphonse Juin, le truppe francesi, formate prevalentemente da soldati provenienti da Algeria, Marocco, Tunisia e Senegal, furono impiegate dapprima, nel gennaio 1944, nel settore montuoso dell’area di Terelle, grazie alla loro esperienza in ambienti montuosi e impervi. Successivamente, furono spostate nel settore montuoso dei Monti Aurunci, dove, nell’ambito dell’operazione Diadem del maggio 1944, riuscirono a sfondare per prime il sistema difensivo della Linea Gustav.

Memory, respect, and a timeless message of peace. Outside the Gari River War Exposition, two monuments welcome the visitors, offering an immediate invitation to reflect.
The first work, a commemorative stele, is dedicated to the 100th Infantry Battalion of the U.S. 34th Infantry Division, serving as a lasting tribute to their contribution during the battles along the Gustav Line.
The second, entitled "The Prayer," stands to condemn the atrocities of all conflicts.
Two monuments that share the common objective of preserving history to convey a clear and universal message to future generations.

Memoria, rispetto e un messaggio di pace che travalica il tempo. All'esterno del Gari River War Exposition, due monumenti accolgono i visitatori proponendo una riflessione immediata.

La prima opera, una stele commemorativa, è dedicata al 100° Battaglione di Fanteria della 34ª Divisione statunitense, a perenne ricordo del contributo offerto durante i combattimenti lungo la Linea Gustav.
La seconda, intitolata "La Preghiera", per condannare le atrocità di tutti i conflitti.

Due monumenti che condividono come obiettivo quello di custodire la storia per insegnare alle nuove generazioni un messaggio chiaro e universale.
