A logo reborn, a brand reignited. 💥

The late 1960s were a time of transformation at Ducati. New CEO Fredmano Spairani set out to revitalize the brand and bring back the spark that nearly earned it a world title in the 125cc class in 1958. What followed was a legendary run: the new Scrambler series, the debut of desmodromic technology on the road, and the first L-twin engine.

Along the way, Ducati brought back the iconic logo from the ’30s and ’40s. Its distinctive shape, its simplicity, its ties to tradition. For the next four years it appeared on bike after bike, from the 500 and 750 twin-cylinder race bikes to the 750 Desmo that triumphed at Imola in 1972 with Smart and Spaggiari.

A winning look for a brand ready to start winning again.

On October 4, Bologna comes together to celebrate its patron saint, San Petronio.

For generations, the day has been a time to gather with family and friends, share a meal, and celebrate the city and its traditions.

It also holds a special place in Ducati’s history.

That’s because for years, brothers Adriano, Bruno, and Marcello Ducati celebrated San Petronio alongside their Ducati employees. Even after Ducati became a state-run company in 1948, they continued the tradition, organizing a lunch at one of Bologna’s most renowned restaurants for 200 to 300 former employees, with a strictly Bolognese menu.

The tradition eventually faded, particularly after the passing of Adriano Ducati, but the memories remain with those who were there.

This time, we’re heading back to the ’90s in Cologne.

After a wave of innovation in the mid-to-late ’80s, the Borgo Panigale company hit the Intermot international exhibition in Cologne with two brand new bikes. On October 2, 1992, they presented the Supermono and the Monster, setting in motion what many consider the brand’s “golden era” of motorcycles.

The Monster introduced the “naked” motorcycle to the market, combining Ducati’s V-twin technology with the racing-derived frame technology of the 851.

But the Supermono took a different path. Born from a challenge to create a new single-cylinder racing motorcycle, the project was eventually entrusted to a young engineer who had recently joined Ducati: Claudio Domenicali.

The result became one of Ducati’s most sought-after motorcycles, attracting huge interest, particularly in the United States. And with just 67 produced during its two-year production run, the Supermono remains a rare and coveted collector’s item today.

Some moments are made to live on. 🔥

25 years ago today, there was plenty to celebrate. Troy Bayliss had just claimed his first Superbike World Championship title at Assen, and Ducati was marking its 75th anniversary.

The final race of the season was set for Imola, the circuit where Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari triumphed at the 1972 200 Miglia. So Ducati decided to bring a piece of that history back to the track.

Troy arrived on the grid in a black suit, riding a 996 F01 finished in a striking silver livery. He was the spitting image of Smart’s winning look aboard the 750 Imola Desmo, nearly thirty years earlier. A tribute to a legendary victory, recreated on the very same circuit.

Though Troy’s run that day ended with a fierce battle and a collision, the spirit of that day lived on. He would go on to become the second most successful rider in the Superbike World Championship.

The year was 2007. The Desmosedici had just debuted its new 800 cc engine, and a young Australian rider by the name of Casey Stoner joined Ducati’s factory team. Atop the Desmosedici GP07, Casey brought home victory after victory around the world.

On September 23 at the Japanese Grand Prix, he took his place in racing history. With 10 race wins and four additional podium finishes, Casey secured the 2007 Riders’ Championship, and his remarkable season helped Ducati claim its first MotoGP Manufacturers’ Championship.

In the final race of the season, the GP07’s iconic red livery with black-and-white barcode was given a patriotic makeover. Casey’s number 27 was dressed in the colors of the Italian flag, proudly declaring to the world: “Made in Italy.”
