: ‘Alessandra Spranzi. La dimensione delle cose’, Viaindustriae, 2026

This artist book, edited by Ilaria Gianni, with texts by Cecilia Canziani, Ilaria Gianni, Estelle Hoy, Quinn Latimer and Simone Menegoi, is conceived as a long-form reflection on a practice unfolding over more than two decades. It seeks to render the complexity of a body of work that moves across photography, collage, found imagery, drawing, and video, tracing its development from its initial articulations to the present.

The volume articulates the evolution of Alessandra Spranzi’s practice while foregrounding a set of recurring motifs that persistently traverse and structure her research, such as the tension between scale and intimacy, the circulation and transformation of images, and the oscillation between reality and marvel.

Laura Grisi’s work at ‘Oltre le nuvole / Beyond the Clouds’, a group exhibition at XNL Piacenza, curated by Chiara Gatti, Paola Pedrazzini and Gianmarco Romiti, with the participation of the Storyville collective.

Laura Grisi’s work has always been considered part of Italian Pop Art, though even from the outset she actually went beyond that category, promptly intercepting various lines of international artistic research and applying them in her own original synthesis.

The exhibition is part of a project that—alongside a theatrical program and a sound installation—investigates the theme of the sky and its metamorphoses through the work of 20 artists.

: ‘Xian Kim: Respite for this Afternoon’

P420 is proud to announce the opening of Xian Kim’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, titled ‘Respite for this Afternoon’.

Kim Xian (1992, Seoul, South Korea – lives and works in Seoul, South Korea) reimagines familiar creatures and objects by reconstructing them with textures similar to plastic. She approaches her work with the intent to focus solely on the essence, stripping away the additional elements that are often encountered in daily life.

The objects and creatures reimagined as still life do not convey any particular temperature, yet they reveal forms that are objective, simple, and at times, candid. Everything in her paintings exists in an idealized state of nothingness, embodying the complexity of reality, or rather, the absence of conceptual ideas. Her works escape from reality and create a unique utopia of Kim Xian’s own. This space, which feels like a world of zero gravity, is free and peaceful, allowing one to forget all of the worries and troubles of the world.

: ‘Creature, Creatori. San Francesco e l’arte contemporanea’, a group exhibition at - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, curated by Beatrice Buscaroli and featuring Alessandro Pessoli’s work.

Alessandro Pessoli is an interdisciplinary artist who has gained international
acclaim for his highly expressive imagination, drawing on his inner, often unconscious personal narratives, but also on wider-ranging considerations on the state of contemporary visual culture and art history.

Using a variety of media, from painting to drawing, stencils to terracotta, Pessoli charges his canvases and sculptures with a remarkable wealth of images, all connected by great emotional intensity. His apparently chaotic compositions, upon closer analysis, reveal their craftsmanship, at times bordering on photorealism. Through the use of a palette that ranges from bright to dreamier colors, his works strike a balance between the amusing and the grotesque, opening up ironic and almost savage reflections on the contemporary world.

The exhibition goes beyond the iconographic image of St Francis to recount his way of looking at the world and the ethical value of his thinking.

- Merlin James: See Through

‘See Through’ is the second solo show at the gallery by Merlin James. The title is a phrase that clearly references painting and the interplay of opacity and transparency in images, but also evokes the common English expression “to see something through”, meaning to carry something to completion, or to dedicate oneself over time to the realization of a project.

to Joachim Schmid! 🎉

Joachim Schmid has worked with found photography since the early 1980s. He began his career as a freelance critic and the publisher of ‘Fotokritik’ and, after ceasing publication in 1987, he focused on his own art production, based primarily on found photography and public image sources.

Schmid’s use of extended series reflects his concern with photography as an encompassing, culturally dispersed and ubiquitous social and aesthetic discourse that runs throughout the public and private spheres of modern life. Yet the fundamental richness of Schmid’s photographic raw material – along with the sardonic wit he so often displays – derails any attempt to read his work as pure anthropology or social science. His artistic preoccupations reflect a close observation of photographic history and a fascination with photographic images themselves in all their alternately bizarre and conventionalized aspects.

'Feedback. Gli Ambienti di Franco Vaccari', a Franco Vaccari’s retrospective at Museion Bolzano-Bozen, curated by Frida Carazzato and Luca Panaro.

Franco Vaccari is recognized as the inventor of the concept of 'Exhibition in real time', which he has explored since 1969 in both theoretical and operative ways. The theme of the trace and the photographic medium are two constants found throughout his entire work. From the outset, Vaccari does not use photography to produce mimetic, analogical images, but as the imprint of a presence, a signal, a physical trace or track of a being-there.

In this sense, his project for the Venice Biennale of 1972, ‘Exhibition in Real Time no.4: Leave on the walls a photographic trace of your fleeting visit’ is emblematic. The position of his artwork is tangential to several areas, but what perhaps best expresses its meaning is the term 'conceptual realism'.

Bringing together photographic works, videos, artist's books, and archival materials, the exhibition presents, for the first time, a comprehensive exploration of Vaccari's environments as the core of his artistic practice.
