Treasure from the past, for the future- Goa Chitra is a tribute by its founder to his ancestors and to their way of life using age-old wisdom passed down through generations. Goa Chitra Museum - the flagship ethnographic museum, opened in 2009. It is a unique collection of over 4,000 artifacts related to traditional farming implements and other ancient tools of trade. Goa Chakra Museum – a transportation museum that is the first of its kind in India, opened in 2014. It holds a display of ancient modes of transportation from all over India that reveals the progressive history of success in the modern industrial age through the wheel. Goa Cruthi Museum - opened in 2016 is a collection based on Goa’s colonial past that showcases the various aspects of the fast-fading rich culture of Goa. 🌿 GOA CHITRA: A CLASSROOM WITHOUT WALLS — INSPIRING STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS ALIKE! 🏛️

On 10th October 2026, Goa Chitra Conglomerate of Museums welcomed a group of 25 educators from St. Theresa’s Higher Secondary School, Candolim, for an immersive cultural learning experience.

The educators were welcomed and briefed by Victor Hugo Gomes, Founder and Curator of Goa Chitra, followed by a guided tour of all three museums with our trained guides.

✨ Goa Chitra is increasingly becoming an educational hub not only for students but also for teachers and educators who recognise the importance of experiential learning. 🌿 LEARNING THROUGH HERITAGE AT GOA CHITRA! 🏛️

On 10th October 2026, Goa Chitra welcomed 10 participants from Kala Academy — 8 Music Trainers and 2 Directors — as part of the Mandatory Induction and Professional Competency Development Programme conducted by the Goa Institute of Public Administration & Rural Development (GIPARD).

The group was welcomed by Victor Hugo Gomes, Founder and Curator of Goa Chitra, followed by a guided tour of all three museums with our trained guides.

✨ The visit offered a meaningful opportunity to explore Goa’s rich cultural heritage, traditional lifestyles and living histories through an immersive museum experience.

GOA CHITRA — WHERE HERITAGE BECOMES A LIVING CLASSROOM

Today, Goa Chitra welcomed 37 students and 02 faculty members from The CES College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim, for an immersive journey through Goa’s rich cultural and material heritage.

Coming just a day after the visit of students from Rosary College, Navelim, this continued stream of educational groups is a reminder of how GOA CHITRA CONGLOMERATE OF MUSEUMS HAS BECOME AN IMPORTANT EDUCATIONAL HUB FOR GOAN HERITAGE AND CULTURE.

From our Ethnographic Museum, to the Goa Chakra Transportation Museum and the Goa Cruthi Museum, students are not merely looking at objects behind glass. Through our exclusive guided tours, they encounter the tools, traditions, technologies, occupations, homes and everyday practices that shaped the lives of generations of Goans.

This is EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING — where the museum becomes an extension of the classroom and where history can be seen, understood and discussed in a very tangible way.

While Goa Chitra continues to be a major CROWD PULLER FOR TOURISTS AND LOCALS, increasingly it is our STUDENTS, COLLEGES, SCHOOLS, RESEARCHERS AND EDUCATORS who are making the museum an essential destination for understanding Goa.

For us, every student visit is an investment in the future.

Because if the younger generation does not understand the value of our heritage today, who will preserve it tomorrow?

WHEN A MUSEUM BECOMES A CLASSROOM

On 6th October 2026, Goa Chitra had the pleasure of welcoming 20 students and 2 faculty members from Rosary College, Navelim.

What followed was much more than a museum visit. The students embarked on an immersive guided journey through all three museums of Goa Chitra — Goa Chitra, Goa Chakra and Goa Cruthi — discovering the extraordinary knowledge, skills, traditions and ingenuity that once shaped everyday Goan life.

LEARNING IS NOT CONFINED TO FOUR WALLS

For me, a museum should never be a silent building filled with old objects. It should be a place where young minds can see, touch, question, listen, understand and connect with the world that existed before them.

At Goa Chitra, every object has a story. A farming implement speaks about our relationship with the land. A traditional tool speaks about craftsmanship. A household object tells us about everyday life. A mode of transportation tells us how people travelled and connected. Together, these objects tell the larger story of Goa and its people.

FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE REAL WORLD

After their guided tour, the students had an opportunity to interact with me as the founder and curator of Goa Chitra, and we spoke about the collection, the importance of preserving our heritage and the responsibility that young people will inherit as the next custodians of Goa.

These conversations are perhaps as important as the objects themselves.

Because if our children grow up knowing only what is modern and convenient, but remain disconnected from the knowledge and wisdom of their ancestors, we lose much more than objects — we lose a part of who we are.

KEEPING HERITAGE ALIVE

For more than two decades, I have believed that Goa Chitra must be an extension of the classroom — a place where education becomes experiential and where our young people can discover Goa through its material culture.

The greatest reward for a museum founder is not simply seeing visitors walk through the galleries. It is seeing young minds becoming curious about their own heritage.

GOA CHITRA WELCOMES THE WORLD 🌍

Today, Goa Chitra Conglomerate of Museums had the pleasure of welcoming 29 international students of Forensic Sciences from the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Goa Campus, accompanied by 6 faculty members.

The students, pursuing the 2-year and 5-year Forensic Sciences programmes, are part of the Zimbabwe Presidential Fellowship and the International Centre for Cultural Programmes at NFSU Goa Campus.

The group was welcomed by Founder & Curator Victor Hugo Gomes, followed by an intensive guided tour conducted by our trained museum guides.

FROM GOA TO THE WORLD

What makes this visit particularly special is that Goa Chitra is increasingly becoming a place of learning not only for Goan and Indian students, but also for international students and academic institutions. Our museums offer a living classroom where history, culture, technology, traditional knowledge, environment and material heritage come together.

A MUSEUM WITHOUT BORDERS

Every international student who walks through Goa Chitra takes away something of Goa with them. And in return, they bring their own cultures, experiences and perspectives to our museums.

This is exactly what a museum should be — a place where cultures meet, knowledge is exchanged and the past helps us understand the present.

Another old house is altered.

Another agricultural practice is forgotten.

Another generation grows up without knowing how their grandparents lived.

This is why museums matter.
