Through industrial materials and abstract forms, Meulat Sarira by Putu Edy 'Pekong' Kharisma (Putu Edy Kharisma.W™) reflects Bali's accelerating landscape transformation.

Echoing the idyllic imagery of the Ubud School, the work reimagines rice fields as a metaphor for the tension between cultural memory and contemporary development.

Its materiality speaks to the realities of land exploitation, environmental change, diminishing public space, and the shifting social and economic landscape of Bali.

Putra Wali Acok (Putra Wali Aco) explores the fragile boundary between tradition and commodification through. Reimagining the form of the Balinese gebogan using aluminium, an industrial material closely associated with souvenir production, the installation reflects on the intersections of spirituality, commerce, and cultural consumption.

Composed of three towering structures in vibrant candy tones, the work invites viewers to consider how cultural symbols continuously shift between ritual, memory, and the realities of contemporary economies.

Material carries memory. Process shapes meaning.

Mangde Bendesa () transforms thread and painted canvas into meditations on time, labour, and cultural continuity. Drawing from the Balinese tradition of Sigar Mangsi and the handcrafted thread ornaments once used in Ngaben ceremonies, his meticulous process becomes both an act of preservation and emotional reflection.

Moving between painting and sculpture, Finding Balance binds painted canvas with sacred Tridatu threads, evoking the Barong while exploring the space between tradition and contemporaneity, material and memory, stability and transformation. Through every strand and every fold, Mangde reminds us that meaning is never fixed, it is continually shaped through encounters between people, materials, histories, and lived experience.

Made Arsana’s (Made Arsana) artwork, transforms handcrafted cowhide into a quiet reflection on labour, economy, and resilience. Drawing from his direct experience working with leather, Arsana intricately carves twenty cowhide panels, embedding subtle symbols of currency and global brands within ornamental forms.

Installed with wood, light, and shadow, the work recalls the cultural legacy of Balinese Wayang while questioning the systems that shape production, opportunity, and the distribution of wealth.

Through the material’s own physical behaviour, its tendency to curl and resist permanence, the installation reveals the ongoing tension between tradition and industry, craftsmanship and mass production, and the enduring pursuit of equity.

Drawing from the philosophy of Balinese temple architecture, Tedung Bhuana transforms the tedung (umbrella) into a meditation on protection, guidance, and cultural memory. Constructed from bamboo, sugar palm fibre, and painted umbrellas, the installation reveals varying states of openness, exposing the material tension between form, movement, and transformation.

Through Wayang imagery and traditional materials, Kadek 'Pak Odet' Sumerta (Ikadek sumerta) reflects on the gradual distancing of contemporary Balinese society from the values and teachings embedded within its cultural heritage.

Composed of twenty-five hybrid figures carved from driftwood and arranged upon a single expanse of weathered bark, Sesuatu explores the fluidity of identity, migration, and coexistence. Drawing from the visual language of Rerajahan, Balinese sacred diagrammatic traditions, Kaprus (Ketut Jaya) transforms driftwood into living metaphors that question the boundaries between self and other, local and foreign, belonging and displacement.

Rather than serving as passive material, driftwood becomes an active participant in the work’s narrative. Carrying traces of movement, time, and environment, it embodies the histories and transformations that shape both landscapes and communities. Through this materiality, Sesuatu reflects on the complex realities of migration in Bali and beyond, inviting us to reconsider how identities are continually negotiated through encounters, memory, and shared spaces.

Presented as part of Everything Is Doing Something, the work resonates with the exhibition’s exploration of materials as agents of meaning, entities that possess their own histories, resist fixed interpretation, and actively participate in the formation of visual language.

Created from air-dry clay, paper, and acrylic, each unique piece embraces the instability of its materials while reflecting on the complexities of contemporary society, where knowledge, ignorance, nationalism, and tribalism continue to shape everyday life.

Resisting fixed categorisation, the works invite viewers to reconsider the objects and images that influence how we see ourselves and others.

Born in Palu to a Balinese family, Gung De Putra 'Jawok' () explores material as a vessel of memory and lived experience.

Through Grace and Sejarah-Goresan-Kelanjutan (History–Mark–Continuity) (2026), sugar palm fibre, wood, and air-dry clay embody narratives of migration, family lineage, cultural identity, and belonging.

Rooted in his experience as a third-generation Balinese migrant in Central Sulawesi, Jawok's practice transforms material into an exploration of continuity, resilience, and the enduring notion of home.

Ama’s photographic practice revolves around these discourses, which, in his view, emerge through contemporary global conditions where values, traditions, and beliefs interact and intermingle in Bali.

Through layered glass, light, photography, and wood, Gung Ama (Gung Ama) Artwork questions the image of Bali we think we know.

Fragmented figures, sacred symbols, and glowing colours blur the boundaries between tradition and modernity, authenticity and fabrication, inviting us to reflect on identity, belonging, and the realities behind paradise.
