Yeovil Creatives 'Finding Calm in the Chaos'

Today we are sharing the sixth in a series of spotlights on our Yeovil Creatives members as they appear in our current show, their annual exhibition.

Paintings and Mixed Media work seen here by artists:

Julian Bird
Jenna Powell
Prabir Kumar Ruth
Rachel Coman
Georgina Conroy
Dawn Handy

When visiting the show you will find a little caption alongside each piece where the artist shares how their artwork translates the theme of the exhibition 'Finding Calm in the Chaos'

For example Julian says,

"Flowers and nature have always been synonymous with calm and tranquility; so within these chaotic changes to me the weather in recent times; these never fading, never wilting flowers will be an ever-green symbol of calmness in a chaotic world.”

And Dawn says of her sculptors

"We are merely echoes of form, yet forms unto ourselves. Made of shadows and light, constant guardians of the regulation of self, amidst turbulent global currents.”

Many of the artworks are for sale so you may even find a beautiful and unique piece of art that has been made by a local artist for your home.

Our exhibition is open Wed - Fri, 12 - 4pm and Sat, 11am - 4pm.
Each Friday and Saturday exhibiting members will be in the gallery so come in and say hi!

They will also be running our Saturday Creative Drop In sessions, 1 - 3pm, so a variety of activities will be on offer throughout August.

✨Exciting Opportunities for the Young Creative Minds of Yeovil! ✨

We have two art clubs! Coming up for the Autumn term, we have our Saturday Art Club (SAC) for 7 - 12 year olds, 10am - 12pm, and Young Artist Yeovil (YAY) Club for 13 - 17 year olds, 1 - 3pm!

Starting on Saturday 26 September and will take place every other Saturday during term time. All dates are on our website.

We are aiming to make fun, nurturing creative spaces for creative minds all the way from primary school until the beginning of college.

We aim to focus on supporting individual children to develop their creative skills, and expand their knowledge by responding to our high-quality exhibitions and projects, while developing their confidence by working in collaboration with others. We have created a programme that is complementary to the current curriculum in school, but more fun!

The teens have a more intermediate focus, helping students develop their personal style and portfolio while having the opportunity to display their work and develop further confidence by being encouraged to work in collaboration with others.

More information about Saturday Art Club can be found: yeovilartspace.uk/artclub/
More information about YAY Club can be found: yeovilartspace.uk/yay/

Tara Gibson
Samantha Hann

For example Tara says,

"Inspired by lots of mountain meditation. Standing still like a mountain, finding calm in the chaos, allowing the weather to pass me by. This piece is a reminder to stay strong and still, no matter what chaos is outside.”

And Samantha says of her painting

"I am particularly drawn to water for its sense of calm, renewal and power. This piece begins with texture, I shape the waves using modelling paste, sculpting forms that capture the rhythm and movement of the sea.”

Paintings and Mixed Media work seen here by artists:

Sarah Moore
Mimi Gafney
Emily Duchscherer Kirk

When visiting the show you will find a little caption alongside each piece where the artist shares how their artwork translates the theme of the exhibition 'Finding Calm in the Chaos'

For example Sarah says,

"At times I like to take everyday phrases such as ‘Get out of your comfort zone!’ and dismantle and challenge them. Sometimes a comfort zone may be exactly what is required, we need to find that, crawl in and protect ourselves."

And Gemma says of her prints

"I find the best way for me to find calm in the times of chaos, is to ground myself in nature. The smell of damp earth, a soft breeze and the sounds of birds helps me to centre my chaotic thoughts."

Many of the artworks are for sale so you may even find a beautiful and unique piece of art that has been made by a local artist for your home.

Our exhibition is open Wed - Fri, 12 - 4pm and Sat, 11am - 4pm.
