This artist destroys vinyl records to make art. And the records he chooses are part of the story. 🎶

Contemporary British artist Ben Riley creates portraits of music icons including David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Keith Richards; using fragments of music culture itself.

Broken vinyl, lyrics, album artwork and printed ephemera are cut, layered and reworked into each piece. Look closely and you’ll find details that connect directly back to the musician and their music.

Ben has spent more than two decades developing this distinctive process, creating contemporary portraiture that rewards a closer look.

Seven decades of music. Four walls. 🎶

2026 marks 50 years of Punk. With Mark Illuminati’s punk-inspired works included in the curation, it sparked a bigger idea; to explore the musicians, movements and imagery that have shaped popular culture.

Starting with Elvis Presley and moving through The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Black Sabbath, Queen, Elton John, punk, Oasis and Amy Winehouse, musical history unfolds across the walls through contemporary art.

Put the works together and a chronology starts to emerge. Tastes change, attitudes shift, and the relationship between music, fashion, photography and identity evolves with them.

There are also limited edition artworks by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood; an interesting reversal in a room largely filled with artists interpreting musicians. Here, the musician is making the art himself.

Curated by May at Wyecliffe, this isn’t intended to be a definitive history of music. It’s a look at the people and moments that left their mark, and why artists are still responding to them today.

What if the future really could be foretold?

At first glance, Lhouette’s ‘Luck Maker’ is an intensely worked, highly crafted art edition. But its extraordinary construction is fundamental to how the work is understood.

Designed to behave almost like an oversized locket, the piece develops Lhouette’s long-standing fascination with pendants, charms and talismans, objects invested with ideas of protection, belief, luck and fate.

Across its outer panels, horseshoes, four-leaf clovers and other familiar symbols of good fortune sit within Lhouette’s densely layered visual language. Open the work, however, and another narrative emerges.

At its centre is a mysterious psychic portrait, drawing on the visual world of fortune telling and Lhouette’s own childhood experience of having his future read.

As the artist recalls:

“When I was a little boy, I had this fortune teller knock on my door and just go straight into telling me my future…she told me five things and all of them have pretty much come true.”

That experience gives the imagery within ‘Luck Maker’ another dimension. Beneath the colour, nostalgia and playful symbolism are much larger questions about luck, love, destiny and death, and our enduring desire to know what might be waiting for us.

Is the future something already written? Or something we continually shape through the choices we make?

This is where the remarkable construction of ‘Luck Maker’ becomes so important. The artwork doesn’t reveal itself all at once. It asks to be opened, explored and uncovered.

The act of discovery is part of its meaning.

Gotham had the Batmobile. Peckham had something a little more…cushty. 🦇🚖

David Renshaw Artist turns his attention to one of the greatest moments in British comedy with ‘The Cushty Crusaders’, an original oil painting inspired by the legendary Only Fools and Horses episode ‘Heroes and Villains’.

Del Boy and Rodney. Batman and Robin. The Trotters Independent Trading Co. three-wheeler. And, naturally, David’s unmistakable red heart strapped in for the ride. ❤️

It’s a wonderfully nostalgic addition to David’s Iconic Cars Collection, bringing together two unlikely superheroes, one very questionable mode of transport and a scene that millions of us recognised the second it appeared on screen.

Painted entirely by hand in oils at David’s Southport studio, this is the one and only original painting.

For the David Renshaw collector, or the Only Fools and Horses fan who knows exactly what happens next, this one really is rather lovely jubbly.

Turns out, hanging the art is the easy bit.

The real work? Knowing what belongs together, and knowing when something still isn’t quite right. Sometimes you move one piece and suddenly everything else falls into place.

If you’re redecorating or renovating, don’t leave the art until last.

Too often, a room is completely finished before anyone thinks about the art, leaving them searching for something that simply matches the interior.

But contemporary art should do more than fill an empty wall. The right statement artwork can create a focal point, change the visual hierarchy of a space and introduce something the room is missing; scale, tension, colour or character.

It doesn’t have to match and this luxury Marbella apartment proves it. Thai contemporary artist Vichit Nongnual’s large-scale double portrait brings an entirely different cultural influence and energy into a calm, neutral setting, and that contrast is precisely what gives the room its identity.

So, when choosing art for your home, ask yourself:

❤️ Does it change the room?

A beautifully designed interior can still be forgettable; art is often what gives it a point of view.

Why would an artist known for vibrant neon skulls spend time sketching mountains and palm trees? 🎨

Watching Becky Smith Art in Marbella reminded us that a sketchbook isn’t simply a place to practise drawing, it’s where observation slows down.

It’s where light, form, rhythm and atmosphere are observed, questioned and gradually distilled into something entirely new.

John Berger’s iconic book ‘Ways of Seeing’ explored the idea that the way we look at the world shapes what we notice. Watching Becky sketch before painting live felt like a perfect reminder of that idea.

The sketch isn’t trying to become a painting. It’s helping the artist decide what the painting needs to be.
