The Spitfire Company is a world-renowned restoration and maintenance facility, home to the world's largest collection of Spitfires alongside an exceptional fleet of historic warbirds, including the P-51 Mustang, Hawker Hurricane & Messerschmitt The Spitfire Company, established in 2011 at Biggin Hill Airport, is a maintenance and restoration facility specialising in Supermarine Spitfires and other Warbirds, including Hawker Hurricane, P-51 Mustang, Hispano Buchon and T6 Harvard.

Our Hawker Hurricane AE977 completed her post-maintenance flight yesterday evening, following a scheduled period of maintenance.

As part of the work, her propeller was removed and sent away for its scheduled inspection — a check required every few years looking for any signs of corrosion Internally.

With the inspection complete, the propeller was refitted and high-power engine runs were carried out to ensure everything was performing as it should. We’re delighted to report that AE977 then successfully completed her maintenance flight yesterday evening. She’s all good to go! ✅

And that means she’s ready to head to Duxford for the Battle of Britain Air Show on 12th & 13th September.

Joining her will be:

🛩️ Moonbeam McSwine
🛩️ Hispano Buchón

🔧✈️ Inside our restoration facility.

Our engineering team is making excellent progress on our latest Spitfire restoration project. We are approaching the significant milestone of wing installation, after which work will begin on the detailed fitting out of both the wings and fuselage.

Here's a first sneak peek at the project. We look forward to sharing further updates as the restoration progresses and this remarkable aircraft continues to take shape.

Spitfire TA805 The Spirit of Kent was out on a post-maintenance flight this week.

We're delighted to announce some upcoming displays where The Spirit of Kent will be appearing:

✈️ 27 July – Old Buckenham Airshow
✈️ 1–2 August – Weald of Kent Steam and Country Show
✈️ 15–17 August – Eastbourne Airshow (Friday to Sunday)

Whilst our sister company, FlyaSpitfire.com , operates the Spitfire experience flights, we are the on-site maintenance provider responsible for the continued airworthiness of all of the two-seat Spitfires under our CAA-approved maintenance organisation.

Through a comprehensive programme of scheduled inspections, preventative maintenance and engineering checks, our engineers ensure each aircraft is maintained to the highest standards.

Featured here is Flyaspitfire.com's Spitfire Mk VIII MT818 undergoing routine maintenance, including high-power engine ground runs to confirm the performance and operational integrity of its systems. Following the successful completion of these checks, the aircraft was shut down, re-cowled and prepared for its next flying duties.

Spitfire Mk VIII MT818 is presented in the colours of the 309th Fighter Squadron as 'Lady Ellen III', the aircraft flown by Lieutenant John E. Fawcett, who named his Spitfire in honour of his wife, Ellen.

Last month, we said farewell to our latest restoration, Spitfire Mk I P9372, as she departed for her new home.

After years of meticulous restoration, dedication and craftsmanship, our engineering team gathered to witness the culmination of their hard work as P9372 took to the skies once again.

Her departure from Biggin Hill carried special significance, as it was the very same airfield from which she flew in 1940. A proud moment for everyone involved.

What an unforgettable weekend at Headcorn Airshow!

Our team had an incredible time supporting our Hurricane, Spitfire and Mustang as they took to the skies for two action-packed days of breathtaking display flying.

With thousands of visitors enjoying glorious sunshine and crystal-clear blue skies, Headcorn was alive with the unmistakable sights and sounds of historic warbirds both on the ground and soaring over the Kent countryside. There really couldn't have been a better setting.

One of the standout moments was seeing Moonbeam McSwine gleaming in the sunshine, her polished natural metal finish sparkling at the historic Headcorn Airfield – formerly RAF Lashenden, once home to the legendary P-51 Mustangs.

Although our Hispano Buchón was unfortunately unable to attend, there was certainly no shortage of excitement. Watching our Hurricane fly as part of a magnificent three-ship Hurricane formation was a truly special sight, while TA805 'The Spirit of Kent' thrilled the crowds in the spectacular closing dogfight display alongside another Hispano Buchón, bringing an exhilarating finale to an outstanding weekend.

A huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers and everyone for this great weekend.

We are looking forward to attending the Headcorn Airshow this weekend, where several aircraft from our collection will be taking part in what promises to be an excellent event.

Representing The Spitfire Company will be our Hawker Hurricane AE977, Spitfire TA805, P-51 Moonbeam McSwine, and Hispano Buchón. Joining them will be the P-51 Mustang Marinell, which is maintained by our engineering team here at The Spitfire Company.

Our engineers have been busy carrying out the final preparations to ensure each aircraft is presented and performing at its very best.

Moonbeam McSwine has received a thorough clean and polish ahead of the weekend, while the Hurricane underwent routine inspections. Spitfire TA805, the Buchón, and Marinell are all prepared for Headcorn.

We look forward to seeing these historic aircraft displaying throughout the weekend, and meeting visitors.

Well, this is our first post as The Spitfire Company.

It seems only fitting to begin with a maintenance update on the aircraft that started our growing collection of warbirds: Spitfire IX TA805. Pictured here are our engineers carrying out her first engine runs following the installation of a Merlin 70 engine.

It's an exciting time for us as a company as we undertake a long-awaited rebrand. We have so many exciting developments ahead, including a new merchandise range, a new website, and much more that we can't wait to share with you.

While we were incredibly proud of our former name, Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar, we felt that to better reflect our core specialism in warbird maintenance and restoration, our founding name was the more suitable choice. Our hangar tours, Sit in Spitfire experiences, technical tours, and other visitor experiences will continue to be available through our sister company, Flyaspitfire.com, which operates all of our Spitfire experience programmes.

We remain the same team, the same family-run business, and the same location—just with a new name that better represents what we do best.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you soon.

Yesterday we hosted our very first Warbird Photography Session with leading aviation photographer Darren Harbar Photography-Aviation — and what an incredible turnout it was!

Participants enjoyed rare close-up access to our collection of historic warbirds, alongside outdoor photo opportunities featuring our Mustang, Buchon, and Spitfire, joined by fantastic reenactors who really brought the scene to life.

Inside the restoration hangar, things took on a whole new atmosphere. With dramatic, colourful lighting illuminating our latest Spitfire restoration, the space was transformed into a vibrant canvas of shifting colours and striking aircraft silhouettes — a truly unique photographic experience.

We wrapped up the evening with a special night shoot, as our three aircraft outside powered up. With plenty of room around each aircraft, photographers had the freedom to capture a wide range of creative angles under the night sky.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us — we loved having you there! We’re already looking forward to announcing our next photography session, so keep an eye on our socials for updates.
