LAST LAP FOR A FELLOW MUSEUM

We are open this weekend and also Tuesday through Thursday of next week, the final week of our peak season.

We will also be open through the Saturday and Sunday and Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend but particularly if you are in the east of the country and a journey to us is a bit far, can we suggest an alternative?

A fellow model car museum in Lincolnshire will be opening its doors for one final weekend over the Bank Holiday. On Your Marques Model Car Museum houses more than 1,200 model cars and motorsport memorabilia, plus a four-lane Scalextric circuit and the Pit Stop Café.

Created by Jane and Chris Dring, the family-run museum has been closed for the past few years because of Chris's ill health, while Jane passed away unexpectedly in 2012.

For its final weekend, family, friends and local residents are joining forces, with relatives travelling from as far away as Spain to help open the museum for the last time. Support has also arrived from across the car industry, while car clubs are also planning visits.

Leading the weekend is Jane and Chris's nephew, automotive journalist Steve Fowler, former editor of Auto Express, What Car? and Autocar among others. Steve is using his motoring connections to help fill the museum for one last celebration and raise money for The National Brain Appeal and dementia research.

The museum will be open from 10am to 4pm each day at Thrumber Marsh Lane in Mumby, Lincolnshire, with entry by donations to the National Brain Appeal for dementia research.

As a fellow museum we know all about the challenges of operating in today's environment and we wish everyone at On The Marques the best for their final weekend.

An important addition to our growing Le Mans and GT cabinet, the 2025 Le Mans-winning Ferrari (the 2026 winning Toyota is not available yet).
We are open today, Thursday until around 3pm and all this weekend should you be passing by.

During August as well as being open at weekends we will also be able to welcome visitors on Tuesdays to Thursdays. Feel free to contact us on the same address for further information, especially if travelling some distance.

Trustee John brought down his impressive American Buick today for a photo shoot in front of the museum entrance for our new publicity leaflet – a reminder to car clubs and such like that Cloverlands is a great place for a coffee or lunch stop on a road run! We have plenty of parking and the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway's very nice tearoom is just yards away from us, and we are happy to open specially for a group visit – for more details drop a line to [email protected]

Meanwhile John, Natasha, Dylan and Andrew have been busy working on a new display for room 2, focusing on what happened after the collapse of the once-great Matchbox toys – coming soon...

We are open on both days this weekend between 10.30 and 3.30, and until the end of August you will also generally be able to view the museum on Tuesdays to Thursdays.

A third Elfyn Evans car added to the rally collection today, his 2024 Toyota from the Swedish Rally. If you are a model car museum in Wales you must have a good selection of rally cars, which we have, and you certainly need to represent our current WRC star - when we get a few more we will give him his own display, especially if he wins the title this year - go Elfyn!

Our Chair was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend. Renowned motoring auction house Bonhams always has a sale at the event but this year was different as all the cars were miniatures.

Now we at Cloverlands do not generally move in such a rarified atmosphere but we have just opened an EBay shop to help sell surplus models and secondhand books, with all proceeds going towards maintaining and developing the museum. You will find it at https://ebay.io/m/W4gWGQ - there’s not a lot in it yet but it’s worth bookmarking the page as we will be adding a lot more items in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile the museum is open this weekend between 10.30am and 3.30pm both days, and we have the coolest rooms at our hosts the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway - why not pay us a visit?

Going to be a hot one this weekend, so you might like to know that the museum has no external windows, and so is one of the coolest places at the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway - we are open between 10.30 and 3.30 on Saturday and Sunday and the railway’s tearoom stocked up with ice creams! Come and see what ITV’s Rob Shelley found so fascinating!
