Workshop: Linocut Christmas Cards | Tuesday 24th November | 6pm - 8pm | £30

This festive workshop provides a fantastic opportunity to create and carve your own Linocut Christmas card design. There will be a range of resources available to help you along the way and all materials will be provided. No previous experience is required, you need only bring some festive cheer!

You will learn a range of simple lino-printing techniques, carve a plate, ink and then press your own design.

The session will be facilitated by Neil Mayne. Neil is a Yorkshire based printmaker who loves Christmas!

All materials and refreshments will be provided.
PLEASE NOTE: we will be using sharp tools during this workshop.

Open Day - Writing Words That Changed the World | Saturday 24 October 2026 | 11am -3pm | Free

Celebrating the 500th anniversary of William Tyndale's translation of the New Testament into English.

Five hundred years ago, William Tyndale completed his ground-breaking translation of the New Testament into English — an achievement that ultimately cost him his life. Executed in 1536 for his work, Tyndale nevertheless transformed English culture: within four years of his death, English Bibles were placed in every parish church in England.

As the first widely accessible book in the vernacular, Tyndale’s translation shaped the development of the English language. He coined or popularised everyday words such as birthright, seashore, busybody, scapegoat, and landlady. Tyndale went further and gave his text the rhythm of poetry with phrases such as fight the good fight, salt of the earth, signs of the times, the powers that be, filthy lucre, eat, drink and be merry, and bottomless pit. Tyndale wanted Scripture to sound beautiful when spoken aloud.. The Oxford English Dictionary attributes 822 words and idioms to him as their earliest recorded user.

Lakeside marks this anniversary with a programme of events exploring Tyndale’s legacy and the language of Bible translation. Join us for an Open Day on Saturday 24 October, where visitors can discover the story of Mary Magdalene through the lens of biblical language, work with printmaker Neil Mayne to create their own prints, and enjoy refreshments in a welcoming setting. Free event, donations welcome.

Workshop: Making Pressed Flower Art with Helen Brook | Tuesday 29th September | 6pm - 8pm | £35pp

Join artist Helen Brook for this gentle, hands-on introduction to the art of flower pressing, as you use pre-pressed seasonal flowers to craft your own beautiful botanical keepsakes. We’ll explore pressing methods and techniques for mounting your artworks using a variety of papers and materials. Slow down, get creative, and leave with your own pressed-flower creation and the confidence to continue at home.
No prior experience required to take part in this workshop. All materials will be provided as part of the session.
Suitable for 13+ under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.
Maximum number of participants is 15.

Workshop: Mixed Media Embellished Florals | Saturday 26th September | 10am - 1pm | £45pp

Join embroidery artist Jessica Grady for a colourful and creative workshop exploring floral designs using embellishments and hand stitch. You will be working on your own fantasy floral artwork design using Jessica's samples and ideas to inspire you. Jessica will show you how you can utilise a range of mixed media materials to create your floral design including recycled sequins, painted washers and sponges, as well as more traditional beads, buttons and embellishments. All these elements will be added to your textile background with simple hand embroidery stitches, which will also add some decoration and pattern to your design.

Techniques explored within the workshop include: folded and pleated sequin petals, beaded flower stamens, twisted wire vines and folded flower buds. Everyone will create their own unique fantasy floral design, and Jessica will provide lots of 1:1 assistance, inspiration and ideas to help you create your own textile artwork. This workshop is suitable for all abilities, whether you are a complete beginner to stitch, or someone who would like to explore techniques and try something new!

Maximum number of participants is 12.
