The algorithm knows we love art.
So this morning, opening up the gallery, our newsfeed asked us a question.
“How are independent dealers and grassroots galleries reshaping the London art scene?”
We were curious, so we had a read.
It turns out even some of the big London galleries are struggling with sky-high rents, and a few well-known names have closed their doors.
Meanwhile, smaller independents are doing things their own way.
Pop-ups. Shared spaces. Galleries working together instead of competing.
Keeping costs low so they can take a chance on artists they believe in.
Frieze London has even dropped its rule that a gallery needs a permanent space to take part.
Some people are calling it a return to the grassroots energy of the 90s.
And we smiled, because that’s exactly what we’re doing here in Torquay.
Sienna Gallery opened in May, and this month we launched our gallery hire programme.
Our very first show is Alison Whateley’s, and seeing her work fill the walls is such a joy.
It’s on until Friday 23rd October, so do pop in before it goes.
