What an absolutely fabulous day yesterday! 💛

Thank you so much to everyone who came along and to all of our amazing exhibitors for making the opening of Fifteen x Fifteen such a brilliant day.

It’s so inspiring to see such a diverse group of artists expressing completely different concepts, forms, techniques and approaches, all responding to the same brief. It really highlights the incredible variety and creativity within our glass community and, hopefully, inspires the wider creative industry too.

Artist Spotlights

Laura Quinn - Symbiosis I
Lampworking, coldworking, silvering.

Symbiosis I is a self reflective exploration for the artist. Juxtaposing bodies intertwine, rely on each other for support. The soft, vulnerable limbs mould themselves around a hard, impermeable centre

-

Marta Gibiete - Latvia

The Gentle Force. Fused, painted, bent glass, copper wire, authortechnique

Sometimes a small, light touch is stronger than a strong blow. Sometimes the imagined is stronger than reality.

-

Joshua Kerley/ Dr Guy Marshall Brown -Commissura
Techniques: Kiln cast glass, foaming agent, copper

Commissura explores modular mould-making and kiln-formed glass, where shifting forms and foaming material create unpredictable structures. Finished with oxidised copper, the work balances digital precision with spontaneous, evolving material expression

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE AUCTION… 👀🔥

With 60 incredible artists from 12 countries coming together for Fifteen x Fifteen, there is SO much to look forward to. But I’m also really excited about what our auction helps us achieve.

These are some of Linda Norris’ pieces made following the Blowfish Glass UK Bursary.

The bursary includes a day in our hot shop with a gaffer and assistant, alongside mentorship to help develop ideas and designs before hiring the space.

Money raised through our previous auction enabled us to award TWO bursaries this year: Linda Norris and Hannah Masi. ❤️‍🔥

This year’s auction will feature work made during our Fifteen x Fifteen opening demonstrations, alongside pieces generously put forward by artists in the exhibition.

50% of every sale goes directly to the artist, with the remaining 50% going straight back into the bursary fund.

So your bid helps support an artist AND fund the next bursary.

🔥 BID ON A PIECE. SUPPORT AN ARTIST. HELP FUND THE NEXT BURSARY.

ONLINE AUCTION: 1–4 OCTOBER

Lots can be viewed at Blowfish Glass Gallery from 2 September:

Thursday: 10:30am–3pm
Friday: 10:30am–3pm
Saturday: 10:30am–3pm

Other viewing times by appointment.

I am SO excited to begin curating this amazing exhibition tomorrow! ✨

Fifteen X Fifteen

Our grand opening is Saturday 22nd August, and we’ll then be open to the public from 2nd September.

If you’d like to come along to the opening, I’ve just increased the availability — link in our bio!

There will be hot glass demonstrations during the opening, as well as the chance to experience this stunning international exhibition first-hand, featuring over 60 artists from around the world.

The variation in skill, design and technique across this exhibition is honestly incredible. I’ll be sharing a trio of artists every day in the run-up to the event, so you can get to know some of the work before you visit.

Today we have…

1. Kira Fröse — Door de mand gevallen X 🇩🇪
Blown glass, copper & wood.

2. Julie Light — Blossom in Aqua and Mandarin 🇬🇧
Created using a non-traditional pâte de verre technique, allowing decoration to be hand-applied to the exterior of the piece before firing.

3. Lorena Rode — The Devil’s Spine 🇩🇪
Lampwork & crochet.

Three artists, three completely different approaches to glass 💕

I can’t wait to share more of the incredible work in Fifteen X Fifteen with you over the next few months. ✨

Edit (tutor hired!) We’re Hiring !
Artist Tutor – Observational Drawing & Mark Making

We’re looking for an artist tutor to lead a unique 6-week observational drawing and mark making course, running once a week for 90 minutes, in the incredible surroundings of the Red House Glass Cone.

The classes will run alongside our upcoming international glass exhibition, featuring 60 artworks by contemporary glass artists from around the world, all responding to a shared brief.

Using the exhibition as inspiration, the course will develop observational drawing skills through some truly fascinating subjects, exploring colour, transparency, reflections, refractions, shadows, texture and form through contemporary glass art.

Participants will work with a range of drawing techniques and materials including pencil, charcoal, chalk and other dry media, responding to the artworks through different approaches to line, tone, texture and mark making.

Based within one of the UK’s most historic glassmaking sites, this is a unique opportunity to teach in a beautiful early 1800s building on a UNESCO recognised site surrounded by centuries of glassmaking heritage.

🗓 Days and times are flexible and can work around your availability.

💷 Payment: £80 per session (£480 total for the course).

If you’re interested, or know someone who might be perfect for the role, we’d love to hear from you, please email [email protected]

✏️ Interested in taking part rather than teaching? The course will run from late September through to October. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, comment below and we’ll get back to you with more details and prices.

APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED
Thank you to everyone who submitted an application — we received an incredible 136 entries, exceeding even our 2024 Fifteen x Fifteen exhibition.

Due to the strength and volume of submissions, we’ve decided to expand this year’s event. We will be introducing two additional judges and increasing the number of exhibiting artists from 30 to 60.

The exhibition will now open during the Stourbridge Glass Quarter Festival (21st-23rd August), alongside exhibitions at General Office Gallery, Stourbridge Glass Museum, the Ruskin Glass Centre, and the Red House Glass Cone in collaboration with Makers Market Midlands.

Our opening event will be Saturday 22nd August.
We will also be reaching out to selected artists to discuss live demonstrations taking place throughout the day on Saturday. This sits just ahead of the International Festival of Glass the following bank holiday weekend in St. Helens. What a fantastic Summer for glass !

Our event will be ticketed during the day, with artists and collectors invited to stay for an evening of networking and refreshments from 6:30pm.

A full programme announcement will be shared very soon — please stay tuned via our socials and sign up to our newsletter via the link in bio.

I’m incredibly excited to curate what promises to be a STANDOUT exhibition. Thank you again to everyone who applied.

Soo… who’s coming !? 😃
