“This workshop is open to all – no matter your skills or experience – as a hands-on experience learning to read and transcribe a selection of modern documents from Spalding’s history,” says organiser Dr Gabby Storey.

“It’s a fantastic chance to learn more about how Spalding became the town it is today.”

Over the years, Society members’ pursuit of knowledge has encouraged exploration in medicine, botany, optics and engineering – all of which have helped shape our understanding of science and nature today.

We're focusing firmly on the future with our lecture ‘Science, Solutions and Schools’, which will be held on Friday 16th October 2026. The talk will explore: what do young people know about climate change, and what might they need for the future?

An exciting new exhibition is arriving at Boston Guildhall Museum, set to open on Saturday 10th October.

Visitors may spy some special items on display from the Spalding Gentlemen's Society collections...

The exhibition, Adventurers and Explorers, celebrates the remarkable Lincolnshire men and women who helped shape our understanding of the world.

Discover over 400 years of exploration through fascinating artefacts, historic documents, early maps, expedition equipment and survival gear.

Hot off the press!

Yesterday, our conservator Mary was assessing the condition of a piece from our Original Collection using a light box, when she discovered an image hiding in plain sight…

What do you see? It looks like a watermark of a fighting knight and lion. Watermarks were a useful identifying stamp, signature or image traditionally used by paper manufacturing companies.

The plan is for this piece to go on display later in the year at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum & Gardens
