In our beautiful converted chapel, visitors are treated to deeply personal and relatable history spanning over a century – our collection spans from pre-Victorian toys and models to the present day.

Are you a fan of model trains?

If you are, then Sidmouth Toy and Model Museum is the destination for you! We have 4 model railways in the museum, 3 of which have working trains running throughout the day.

Our model railways include:
- The centrepiece railway: our most intricate model railway, with 3 working tracks, and trains running simultaneously on each
- Sidsea: Professor Brian Diffey's model town, which includes a to scale working track with a tunnel
- The Sylvanian Families railway: Our G gauge railway, which makes a satisfying "clickety clack" as it rolls along the track
- The Sidmouth Station model: A highly realistic model of Sidmouth's old train station

Our younger visitors love the trains too - many get the opportunity to drive or signal the trains themselves!

It's October half term... so come and pay us a visit 🧸

Whether your little ones love toy cars, Lego, model trains, Star Wars, dolls or something else, we're sure they'll love visiting the museum!

Included in the cost of their entry (just £2.50, or as part of a family ticket) is the choice of one of 2 quizzes designed just for them: a Lego minifigure hunt, and a Junior quiz. And, if they complete either (don't worry, our volunteers will be on hand to help!), they win a tasty prize 🍬

Whilst they are busy quizzing away, our grown-up visitors can enjoy a nostalgic look at many of the familiar toys in our collection, or complete our adults quiz (if needed, help is also available for adults!)

Stuck in the rain?

The weather might be miserable, but you don't have to be! Our fascinating collection has something for everyone - it includes plenty of nostalgic toys from the 20th century, as well as more modern toys and models for our younger visitors. We're open 11-4 every day this week except Sunday.

You can easily find us in town - we're located on Chapel Street, just off Church Street, literally seconds from the seafront.

Entry is very reasonable - it's less than a cup of coffee! ☕

Bring your little ones (and bigger ones) to take part in our Minifigure Hunt this October half term!

There are around 30 minifigures hidden around the museum in different exhibits. Some are friendly and easy to spot, whilst others are better hidden...

The hunt is included in the price of their entry (just £2.50 for over 4s) - which makes the museum an excellent value day out for the family.

It's always popular with our younger visitors, who especially love the best part... the prize!!! 🎉 Once they complete the hunt, they'll get to choose a sweet treat to take home with them. And, if the minifigures are proving difficult to find, our friendly volunteers are there to point you in the right direction

We also have an optional Junior Quiz if they're up for a more educational challenge, as well as a more mature optional quiz for the adults.

If you aren't bringing little ones or don't like quizzes, our collection is still as nostalgic as ever!

It's October, and we're back open!

We're open on all the blue days between 11am and 4pm (last entry 3pm), which means that you can visit during October half term week 🥳

The Museum is the perfect destination if you're seeking nostalgia, are fascinated by models, or want to keep young ones entertained...

Tomorrow is the Sidmouth Classic Car Show (we're open 11-4 tomorrow by the way...), so this week's Did You Know is all about Percy the Pedal Car! 🛻

Percy is a very special Tri-ang Pedal car, which was bought second-hand for museum trustee Ian Gregory in 1959 by his father. The price was just £1.

Ian loved Percy and hand-painted it in a distinctive shade of blue. Many years after the car had been outgrown and thrown away, Ian found it at an exhibition at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, bought it, and set about restoring it.

Ian has written a brilliant book about Percy, which you can find in our museum shop - its an excellent read and tells the story of this most amazing reunion.

We hope you'll pop into the museum for much more incredible history...

Saturday is the Sidmouth Classic Car Show!

We're open specially on Saturday, so why not pop in? The show is run by the Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce and features a wide array of vintage cars in pristine condition.

We have old models of many of the car types displayed at the show, and look out for our stall at the event! We're bringing a classic car of our own (a toy one of course!) - a vintage Austin J40 in a beautiful cherry red.

It's the last day of August, and the forecast looks a little cloudy...

So why not spend today with us at the museum!

If you're after a hit of nostalgia, or want a lovely day out with the kids, we're the ideal place for you to visit.

From the centre of town, walk up Church street, and turn onto Chapel Street about halfway up. You'll see us, so pop in!

We look forward to seeing you - we're open Monday - Thursday this week.

If you're in town for the Sidmouth Airshow 🛩️, pay us a visit!

We're open from 10am-5pm tomorrow (Airshow day), with last entry at around 4.20pm. Ticket prices are really affordable, and we offer discounted tickets to families, seniors and children. Dogs are welcome too! Prices are:

Adult £3.75
Senior £3.25
Child (4-16) £2.50
Family (2 adults + 3 children) £11.50

Included in the cost of your ticket is the chance to take part in one of our quizzes. Children can do our minifigure hunt or junior quiz, and we have a more challenging quiz aimed at adults as well. There's also a prize included for our younger quizzers too!

We're down to our last few Bachmann trains!

Our museum shop is selling unused, boxed Bachmann trains from just £40, but only whilst stock lasts. They've been really popular, so visit the shop as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. As a reminder, the trains are all 1/76 scale and OO gauge.

And, if you're on a tighter budget, we also have a few used but fully tested and working Hornby models for £30 each.

Bachmann trains are well-known for their high-quality engineering and intricate detailing. You can test any of the trains for sale in the shop on our track upon request. Brand new, they normally retail for well over £100 and sometimes even for multiple hundreds, so we're offering exceptionally good value.
