In our beautiful converted chapel, visitors are treated to deeply personal and relatable history spanning over a century – our collection spans from pre-Victorian toys and models to the present day.

Your little ones (and bigger ones) can join our Minifigure Hunt!

There are around 30 minifigures hidden around the museum in different exhibits. Some are friendly and easy to spot, whilst others are better hidden...

The hunt is really popular with our younger visitors, who especially love the best part... the prize!!! 🎉 Once they complete the hunt, they can choose sweets, chocolate or a bouncy ball (over 5s only) to take home with them.

Don't worry, you can help them too if you'd like, and our friendly staff and volunteers are always delighted to point them in the right direction.

We also have an optional Junior Quiz if they're up for a more educational challenge, as well as a more mature optional quiz for the adults.

And, if you aren't bringing little ones or don't like quizzes, our collection is still as nostalgic as ever!

It's Folk Week!

Visit us in Sidmouth Toy & Model Museum - we're open every day from Monday (today) to Saturday this week, on our new, extended Opening Hours!

We're the perfect place to take a break from the bustle and the heat, and our beautiful converted Church is situated right in the centre of town, just off Church Street.

Entry is very reasonable at just £3.75 per adult (£3.25 per senior), and booking isn't required. We have toys from almost every different era, so you'll likely recognise a great deal in our collection.

There really is no reason not to come and join us - let us take you on a trip down memory lane!

This is just a sneak peak 👀 of one of our Dolls' Houses 🏠

We have multiple in our collection here at Sidmouth Toy & Model Museum, but the one pictured is particularly impressive. It was generously loaned to us by the family of Joyce Kathleen Jackman, who lovingly restored, decorated and furnished this Dolls' House during her retirement years. She carried on renovating it into her 90s, which shows her devotion! It took pride of place in her home and delighted her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew up.

Pop into the museum to see the rest of the house, you won't be disappointed!

Rupert's been spotted!

He hasn't got far though... since he was last seen at the Sidmouth Toy Library, Rupert seems to have kept close to the sea and has been sitting on Sidmouth seafront.

That said, we don't blame him - we're always mesmerised by a sea 🌊 view too.

We're really hoping Rupert comes home soon, since we're starting to miss him...

We don't typically think of older toys containing plastic, but these old toys are early examples of just that.

They were manufactured in the 1960s by Casdon, and were very popular at the time. The cooker and mixer were made with a surprising amount of detail, and the pans still have their remarkable, as-new shine. In the photo, you can also make out the original leaflet included with the Caston Kenwood mixer, which is in excellent condition.

If you had one of these when you were younger, chances are we'll have many more toys you recognise...

We've had a message from Rupert!

Rupert sent us a message this morning to tell us how much he's enjoying exploring Sidmouth. Today he's been hanging out in the beach toy library with some other toys, lapping up the sun ☀. He sent us this selfie 📸 as proof.

Sidmouth Toy Library is brilliant - it provides beach toys for you to use free of charge whilst you're on the beach. Although you could say we're biased, since we love toys (of course).

He's travelling around Sidmouth, and is documenting his journey with photos. Even though he's keeping in regular contact, we're still a little nervous for his first ever trip away from us...

Is there anywhere in town you'd recommend he goes next?

Last week we said that our Paddington bear didn't spend his time alone...

Because he is kept company by Aunt Lucy! Our Aunt Lucy is, like Paddington, an original from the 1970s. However, as you might have guessed, Aunt Lucy bears are much rarer. So, we're really lucky to have her.

Last week's Did You Know explained the history of the Paddington Bear Stories and teddies. This week, we'll explain who Aunt Lucy actually is.

Aunt Lucy raised young Paddington in Peru, passing on her enthusiastic love of marmalade (something we approve of!). She featured in the Paddington, Paddington 2 and Paddington in Peru films, so is quite well known.

She'd love you to come and pay her a visit, and show off her shiny rose coloured glasses - we're open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week, so see you then!

Meet Rupert!

Rupert is a (very handsome) teddy bear 🧸, who lives with us at Sidmouth Toy & Model Museum. This morning, he went out for his first ever walk - all on his own...

Like any good parents, we were naturally worried about what he'd gotten up to. However, he sent us this lovely selfie 📸 which shows him relaxing in a shelter and watching the sea, which really put our mind at rest.

Rupert told us he'll be exploring Sidmouth over this summer, and that he plans to document his journey with photos. We hope you'll enjoy the pictures he sends to us - we'll pass them on to you as soon as we get them!

It's not Paddington Station we're talking about, it's Paddington Bear!

Our Paddington Bear is an original 1975 model, manufactured by Gabrielle Designs. The Paddington Bear Stories were written from 1958 by Michael Bond - their popularity led to multiple film adaptations, and Paddington even starred in a sketch with the late Queen in honour of her Platinum Jubilee in 2022!

Shirley Clarkson started making Paddington teddy bears in the 1960s for her children (one of whom was the now famous Jeremy Clarkson). Her models were so impressive that Michael Bond took inspiration from them in later books.

This week's Did You Know is the first of 2, since our original model Paddington doesn't spend his time alone...

We're right in the middle of town, off Church Street. Our address is Sidmouth Toy and Model Museum, Chapel Street, Sidmouth, EX10 8ND, United Kingdom.

Once you're here, you won't miss us, as we're housed in a beautiful former church adorned with signage (in our signature red of course!). To reach us from Dukes, which is around halfway along the seafront, takes less than a minute:
1. Walk away from the sea and into town
2. When you see Fields Department Store, bear left and follow the road
3. Turn left just before Gilbert Stephens Solicitors
4. Walk around 50 yards straight ahead

Sidmouth has plenty of on-street parking, as well as car parks if you're visiting us from further afield. The museum is also seconds away from Sidmouth Triangle bus stop, served by numbers 9/9a (Exeter, Seaton & Honiton), 157 (Exmouth), 899 (Seaton & Branscombe) and 382 (Whimple).
