Visitors are given a unique and immersive prison experience combined with first class customer service. Shepton Mallet Prison was built in 1625 and closed in 2013, making it the countries oldest prison. with over 400 years of history behind its high walls, Shepton Mallet Prison is a must see heritage site.

NEW: Exclusive Night-Time Access 👻🔒

Ghost Hunting Behind Bars at Shepton Mallet Prison now includes a guided attempt at spirit communication inside one exclusive investigation area.

Depending on the event, you could enter the Deputy Governor’s Office, Chapel, Kitchen or Staff Mess—four atmospheric spaces normally closed during the prison’s night-time experiences.

Once inside, you will invite any spirits that may be present to communicate. Then, the group will listen, watch and wait for a possible response…

No silent disco beats a Silent Disco Behind Bars. 🎧🔒

On Saturday 26 September, Shepton Mallet Prison’s historic B Wing will be doing something very different.

Collect your glowing headphones and choose from three music channels:

🔴 Cell Block Anthems — singalong classics and party favourites from the 80s to today
🟢 New Release — current hits, modern pop, house, drum & bass and dance remixes
🔵 Old School — 90s and 00s pop, indie, dance and guilty pleasures

Switch channels whenever you like and dance beneath the prison landings, surrounded by the original cells of a real former prison.

Choose the Early Lock-In for an earlier evening behind bars, or report for the Night Shift and keep dancing.

The Governor will be keeping order, the bar will be open and your fellow inmates will be waiting on the dancefloor.

From the Archives: Scars of a Wartime Ex*****on?

These marks in the prison wall are believed to be bullet holes connected to Shepton Mallet’s darkest wartime history.

During the Second World War, the prison was used by the United States military. Two American servicemen Private Alex F. Miranda and Private Benjamin Pygate were executed by firing squad in the prison yard in 1944.

Early Release tickets for Shepton Mallet Prison Silent Disco are available now!

On Saturday 26 September, B Wing will be transformed for a night out behind bars. Collect your glowing headphones, step onto the prison dancefloor and switch between three music channels throughout the evening.

Sing along to Cell Block Anthems, discover current hits and dance remixes on New Release, or head back to the 90s and 00s with Old School. Your group doesn’t even have to agree on the playlist.

The bar will be open, the Governor will be keeping a close eye on proceedings and the original cells and landings of this real former prison will provide a setting unlike any ordinary night out.

Early Release tickets are £23.50! 26 September, 5:00pm - 7:30pm & 8:30pm–11pm. Strictly 18+.
