5th June 1944.

The Group Had Returned From Bombing The Gun Emplacements At Sangatte France
The Aircraft Had All Returned To Base Safely By 11am.

The Ground Crews ( Swing Shift ) Were About To Leave Their Barracks for The Evening Meal Prior To Going To Work.

At 16.00 Hours Base C. O Col Mason Announced, With Immediately Effect.
The Officers And Aero Club Were To Be Closed.
Movies At The Base Theater Were Cancelled Indefinitely.

713Sq Base Adjutant Warned The Squadron To Be Ready For An "Action Stations" Alert In Case Of Enemy Air-Bourne Troops.

Combat Crews Were Told To Go To Bed Early, Briefing Scheduled At At 23.00 Hrs Tonight.

All Personnel Were Restricted To Base And All Airmen On A Pass Were Recalled To Their Organizations , To Those Men Who Had Already Completed Their Duties For The Day It Seemed An Unprecedented Type Of Restriction.

The Men Had No Knowledge Of The Events To Come. They Could Sence Great Happenings, It Seemed That The Air Was Filled With Tension.

On Tuesday we welcomed the family of 2Lt Jay Young Jr to the museum.

Lt Young was a bombadier / Navigator on the Aubrey Cates crew, 713 Squadron.
Jay arrived at seething in may 1944 and finished his tour in july 1944.

His son and grand daughter were overwhelmed to walk in the steps of jay.
We also took the family to seething church, which jay had spoke fondly to his son about.

We would like to thank the family for a very generous donation towards the up keep of the tower museum.
Not many photo's, as it was a mid week visit.

Carl also took the family on a flight around the area, taking off and landing on the runway which jay would of used many times.

Thanks to carl and the family for the photo's
Please note tours of outlaying sites, are with landowners permission.

Tuesday 8th May 1945 VE Day.
Some awesome photos taken at Seething on VE Night.
Officers from one living site decided the flares did not make enough noise!!!! so they supplemented them with pistols and carbines. This unauthorized use of fi****ms resulted in all officers having to get up at 5am for a march around the perimeter!!
