Steel News: August 18th 1983

This week is "leavers extra"! with a page from 1983 As the company wished all the best to many employees. employees have in the past always had a good send off at their retirement.
Photos including :
James "Jim" Young , Alan Pilgrim , Doug Nevlille , David Frost , Tom Ellis , Les Birch , Norman Jackson , Ron Kearsley (with Betty) , and Eric Heeley and his wife.

the second image shows a Hunslet at a car crossing after hitting a car showing the dangers of site road rail crossings. And Maud Czerwinskyj and her dealings with the KGB!

Steel News: August 2nd 1979

Old and the new.

Keadby Bridge, King George V Bridge
And the m180 Trent Bridge opening
Also featuring the Burringham ferry at the Ferryboat Inn

Steel for the new m180 bridge was produced at the heavy section mill, which in the past had produced steel for the King George V bridge many years before.

The articles are well worth reading and to see some amazing photos of all the bridges and the ferry come together,

On Sunday 9th August some of our members enjoyed a visit to the Appleby Frodingham Railway - Scunthorpe Steelworks great time was had by all.

Steel News: August 5th 1976 and an unknown august issues

The first image shows the Demolishing of the blast furnaces at Parkgate steelworks Rotherham, which had its last cast in April 1975.

our second image shows a spread map of all the locations and "sections" of British steel at the time around the UK. Amazing to see how many sections, warehouses, furnaces and rolling mills we had at the time, compared to today, where Scunthorpe now has the last to operating blast furnaces within the UK.

A new addition to our museum!

We thank the British Steel communications team for donating a new British Steel Gala mug from this year's gala at the Scunthorpe United FC . A welcome addition to our gala mug collection and general steelworks historical iitems as part of our museum. We are always looking for new items to add to our collection, so if you have something you would like to donate, please get in touch !

Steel News: July 82

July featured one of the 2 centre pieces of our museum, the Royal Scot built by Normanby Park CEW apprentices. Seen here with Roy Needler. Often the gala star at the steelworks galas, this continued for many years giving children rides and endless fun at the galas.

Also noted is the Naming of Class 47 47222, which her name plate today is in our museum.

Steel News: July 81 , a week later

For us , the main focus is the right hand side article, the branch line society take a tour of the Normanby park works behind a Half-Hunslet. Sadly non of the 3 locomotives survived. As always the society at the time wanted to cover as much track as possible. Today Branch line visit Scunthorpe with us at least once a year, and is a unique opportunity, check out there website for more information.
