We took a few pictures today, 47 in total, unfortunately one Mk10e was being shy and decided to face the wall and an Ibex is away.

Museum of RAF fire Fighting We are very sad to announce that the Museum of RAF Fire Fighting is unable to proceed with its planned official opening, which was due to take place on the 4th May 2018 at their newly acquired home at North Warren Road Gainsborough. Due to the continued expansion of the Hexadex Group, it has been necessary for them to re-acquire the site for business purposes. [ 260 more words ]

On Saturday 8th July, John Foers and his son David together with their families, visited the vehicle collection to admire our two ex-RN IBEX vehicles from Gibraltar. They came in an IBEX pick up truck! They were very pleased with the condition of the vehicles and we learnt a lot about their construction and the differences between the two. IBEX still exists as a company as is currently working on the Mk5 version. [ 38 more words ]

Today and this evening the Volunteers pulled together to make a massive dent in the process of packing up the rooms, the team in during the day packed up the wall of helmets into boxes, the shelves and brackets were then stacked ready to be stored. Work continued into the evening by more volunteers arriving after work, all the brass ware, and victorian items in the main Shop area were bubble wrapped and boxed, all the pictures through out the shop, corridors and RAF room were boxed up, the RAF room was packed away, mannequins undressed and stacked ready for storage, patch display's down the corridor were removed. It is with much regret that the Museum of RAF Firefighting located at RAF Scampton has been closed down today (21/1/16) until further notice. This is due to the MOD’s requirement at RAF Scampton to use the former offices within the Annex of Hangar 2 for the Scampton Airshow 2017 project. The dedicated team of Volunteers won’t give up on the prospect of creating another location for this popular visitor attraction for all its visitors and veterans.
All items currently on display will be catalogued, packed and then placed into storage awaiting a further decision on the possible relocation of the Museum. RAF Scampton will continue to provide us with secure storage which will enable the massive collection of artefacts to be kept together in order for us to plan for the future. Due to strict Health & Safety requirements it will be impossible for us to host any visitors to these facilities. The Museum phone line, website and all other social media will continue to function, and your support for these will be essential if we are to show that the Museum continues to be a viable asset for relocation/re-establishment.
The Museum is very grateful to successive Station Commanders for allowing us to have a presence at RAF Scampton for the last 14 Years. Obviously the last 4.5 years have seen the Museum grow into an extremely popular tourist attraction; reaching No.5 of Things To do In Lincoln within the first year, and No.30 of 345 Things To do In Lincolnshire this year.
Please understand that the decision to close the Museum has not been taken lightly. We were always aware that we were guests of RAF Scampton and as such, service needs must always take priority. Please avoid doing anything that could affect the relationship that we have built with RAF Scampton by entering into any form of negative comment towards the station executives and the RAF/MOD as a whole.
We remain active members of Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire and the Fire Heritage Network UK, and we hope that liaisons with these organisations together with the support that we have received from within the county, nationwide and worldwide, will enable a solution to be found and that the Museum will soon be re-opened to the public at a location within Lincolnshire. If you know of a location suitable to house the collection, or you are a Museum interested in forming a partnership with us at your location, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
The dream will continue… watch this space, but above all, please continue to support us.
