If you've not visited the Aesthetica Art Prize 20 exhibitions at Scarborough Art Gallery and Woodend Gallery yet, come along and see what you think.

There's lots to see including painting, photography, sculpture, video, mixed media and immersive installation. And with a visit to Sitwell Nibbles Café to round it off, it's a great afternoon out in Scarborough.

Tour tickets are free for the Town Hall and £5 for the Art Gallery and Woodend Gallery, and they're booking up fast. Our mailing list members had first dibs, so availability is limited.

Just a little note to say we will be closed this weekend, Saturday 8th - Monday 10th August inclusive for family commitments, (its my birthday!). But no fear, we will be back open on Tuesday 11th at 10am.

But you still have today to fit in all your Nibbles needs, including triple chocolate cake, Biscoff brownie and lots of fresh scones and pasties. And don't forget our wonderful savoury options too!

Call for artists 📢

As part of the Sprucing up Scarbrough project, North Yorkshire Council are calling for artists to submit proposals to create a landmark public art mural at McBean Apartments, St Nicholas Cliff, Scarborough.

Artists are invited to develop an original design that responds creatively to the Scarborough 400 theme while reflecting Scarborough’s history, character, and sense of place.

The display case in Woodend reception has had a refresh thanks to George and Cassie from the team. This fascinating display explores the evolution of branding and how, long before the age of mass advertising, Victorian manufacturers relied on decorative tins, ornate typography and whimsical illustrations to capture customers’ attention.

On display is a selection of household and kitchen items, including biscuit tins, coffee jars and crisp packets, showcasing how packaging design has changed over time.

A new exhibition at Woodend - 'Joy Green - The Landscape of Memory (1951–2016)' - now on display in Sitwell Nibbles Café.

Fascinated by the contrast between power and fragility in dramatic coastal landscapes, Joy painted large-scale watercolours of monumental scenes using a restrained palette of colour. Come and see them for yourself over a cuppa and a slice of cake (or two).
